Unearthed patent shows pad design which ‘positions user’s character in video games'
Casualgaming.biz reports that a patent has been filed by Apple for a device that appears to mimic the functionality of Nintendo’s Wii Remote.
The patent reads: ‘The absolute x- and y-positions of [the] remote control can be used, for example, in video games to position a user's character or to otherwise track the movement of the remote control in a user's environment.’
Casualgaming.biz contacted Apple for a response, but the firm declined to comment.

I'm not so sure, at the end of the day, Apple are a very powerful company and in recent years, they have pretty much put Sony to bed in the 'walkman' market with their i-pod and nothing Sony or anyone else is doing seems to be denting its popularity and sales.
And in the same amount of time, they have also almost gained complete control of the online music industry which, for a company that has no interest in music is a very scary thing.
They have proven that brand awareness and styling can be more powerful than functionality in this day and age and they certainly know how to advertise and market their products to full effect.
If there is a chance that they might get involved in gaming at a time when casual gaming titles and mass market franchises make up a majority of the current games charts, then I think this is very relevant news indeed.
Well, thats my opinion anyway.

Apple products are still pretty functional. Aren't they? My iPod Touch works as good or better than anything similar that I can get...
As for #1, you didn't really have to read it, if you didn't want to. It was hardly a long article either.

Yes, I agree, the i-pods are very functional, my point was, there are lots of other MP3 players on the market that offer similar and in some cases more functions but dont sell the same amount of units because of factors like stylng and brand.
Not trying to argue or anything, just wanted to be a bit clearer.

@ Pantythief;
I agree with your opinion. Name over functionality - that's Apple.
They could give Nintendo a run for their money and show the other two, how it's done.
