Online president says that Xbox 360 won’t be able to compete with new titles
President of Sony Online Entertainment John Smedley believes that PS3’ upcoming slate of MMOs will help distance the console’s offering from that of Xbox 360.
Speaking to The Seattle Times, Smedley said that titles such as The Agency would see MMOs become ‘a strong selling point’ for the PS3.
Smedley also said that MMOs are set to become far more mass market in the near future.
He commented:
“I think MMOs are going to be a real strong selling point for the PS3 long term — there's going to be some great ones on the PS3. You're not going to find The Agency on the [Xbox] 360.”

He added: “I would say [MMOs are] getting more mainstream. If I were characterizing it, I would say think of the video gaming industry five years ago.
“That's kind of where I think we're at. ... Five years ago, do you think Grand Theft Auto IV would have done $500 million [in opening-week sales]? To me, video games are just reaching the real mass-market now. That is going to translate to the MMO side of the business.”

i dont think so...
I think extracting a monthly sub from a console gamer is going to be difficult. PC players wont pay for servers/online but will pay for MMOs subs. Console gamers are a different breed and I cant see it working.
Re: i dont think so...
“i dont think so...”......shut up...ur makin us xbox fans look bad
Re: i dont think so...
I think The Agency is over hyped, and it looks like it really sucks. Though, I wont argue that MMO's are more capable on the ps3 considering how big the BD are.
Also I dont have a 360, but that machine is capable of some good mmo's. Champions looks sic! Its funny how the 360 already has mmo's coming soon and Sony has 0, yet thats where Sony is coming out on top of? I doubt sony will get a good enough MMO on the ps3 to counter the xbox.
Re: i dont think so...
umm are you stupid?? the ps3 has 0?? what are you talking about he just named the agency moron! thats a MMO and not only that its a FPS mmo way better then the stupid fantasy hack and slash crap! and as far as i know you dont have to pay to play! so go take ur x-bot fanboy crap elsewhere
Re: i dont think so...
Wow a fps mmo, like huxley that other mmo fps for the pc/360 etc.
Must say the only mmo that i can see with big potential thus far is APB.
Who likes which candy?!
LOL , So NCSOFT and SOE prefer the ps3 for their games. End of. Got a problem ? , tell it to the devs.
O'rly?
Say that to Age of Conan, biatch. (Funcom is planing to release Age of Conan for Xbox360)
Re: O'rly?
Sony will have to improve the Station subscription process and costs. They are too expensive and there are far too many conditions and clauses. I would still be playing Vanguard if the SOE account thing wasn't so horrible.
Do your job first
Seriously, Sony needs to fire all these corporate salesmen and focus on MAKING games first THEN trying to sell them.
I'm a loyal Playstation-ish, but Sony has really been turning me off in the past couple of years DESPITE the wonderful machine they've put out. Crap like The Agency and HOME are nothing but GIMMICKS!!!
GIVE US THE F-ING GAMES!!!
Re: Do your job first
Gah... you f-ing know what you're talking. That's the smartest thing I've ever heard from anyone on any of these forums. Sony, really needs to get on the ball with some really good games. Uncharted was great and so was Resistance but you can't have people wait a couple of months between titles or exclusives and making promises (home) and not delivering doesn't help. The Agency is lame and anyone that says that it's great needs to have their brain removed from their arse. MMO you say? Nice try. Not everyone likes playing 30 on 30 in a FPS. Personally... the future is in online multiplayer but not necessarily in MMOs.
Re: I dont think so...
Nobody has said anything about monthly fee's you just assumed that there will be. Sony has said multiple times they are investigating alternative subscription models.
