Nintendo's Euro marketing and PR boss says "you're either a gamer or a non-gamer"
Laurent Fischer, managing director of marketing and PR at Nintendo of Europe, has joined the chorus of executives at core games firms which say they don’t like the name of ‘casual gaming’, yesterday telling MCV sister site CasualGaming.biz that the games audience consists of people who are “either a gamer or they are not”.
His comments were made at a special showcase of software for the company’s new WiiWare downloadables channel at Nintendo of Europe’s Germany HQ.
He told the assembled journalists: “I don’t like the word casual.
There’s a lot of meaning and interpretation of the word. For me you’re either a gamer or a non-gamer. You can spend time playing 10 or 20 hours playing a Wii game or Flash game on the ‘net. The people who play all these games are core gamers."

Just because you say it, doesn't make it so...
The term 'casual' can be applied to any form of entertainment - be it going to the cinema, reading, watching TV... There are people that spend every waking minute doing any of the above or would just pop-in occasionally for their favourite movie/book/show...
It's the truth, whether you like it or not, though I'm inclined to believe this guy just doesn't know what he's really trying to say!

I think he has a point. He's saying it's not the game content or genre, but more the person who's playing it that's casual.
For example, someone who only plays the odd hour or so of GTA4 could be called a casual gamer, whereas someone who playes Peggle for hours on end could be referred to as a core gamer. Yet only the latter tends to be called a "casual" game. What's the point?
“A gamer or a non-gamer”

Well I must be a non-gamer, as however hard I try I cannot find a Mario Kart, Wii Fit or Zelda crossbow Training!
What he meant to say was "You're either a games manufacturer or you're a games non-manufacturer"
Nintendo you are rubbish.
