Shane Kim dismisses talk of Nintendo victory; Guarded on existence of Wiimote-style controller
Speaking in an interview with Wired, Microsoft corporate VP Shane Kim has stated that a winner in the next-gen format war can’t be declared until a format is on its way toward selling 100m worldwide.
“Now, if you don't get 10 million units in Japan, can you get to 100 million units overall? I'd love to get 90 million units and have that problem,” said Kim. “That's what we're really trying to focus on. I think it's way too early to declare a winner. Some guys were trying to declare Nintendo the winner of this generation last night,”
He also refused to add fuel to the rumours that Microsoft is working on a Wii-style controller for Xbox 360.
“Here's my point about hardware: You know that we're investing pretty heavily into hardware, online services, and content,” he added. “And regardless of what that underlying technology is, we're going to continue to push innovation in a whole bunch of different places. Whether that's in motion-sensing or some other area, we'll see.”

Winner Shminner
I can't remember who made the point in a previous post but they said something along the lines of this generation of consoles being seperate from each together eg they aren't in a race against each other as they all have different aims/markets etc.
Obviously they are still in competition but the point is still valid. Wii vs 360/PS3 is sort of like comparing cars to a jet-ski ... they all do the same thing but in different ways, and they suit different people better.
My point is that I couldn't care less about a "winner" of this gen of consoles, as long as they all keep trying to win my attention with better games/gfx/hardware because I've seen more innovation in the last 3years than the last 10 and that makes me a happy gamer :D
Re: Winner Shminner
I believe it should be
"Too early"
:(
Re: Winner Shminner
Wii seems to be in a league of its own. The people who play it wouldn't have bought either of the other two anyway. I just hope that the close competition this time around spurs sony to do better. I also wish to point out that the last generation isn't over yet: there are still about a hundred million PS2 owbers, who haven't upgraded yet.

Re: Winner Shminner
Xbox is best if you like returning it to ms for repair/replacement regularly ;-)
Me, I quite like watching HD movies on my console as well as playing HD games
As someone else said, its like comparing a scooter with a car and a jet; they appeal to different people on different ways
Re: Winner Shminner
I agree. This console "Race" is slightly different from previous ones as the 3 main home consoles appeal to very different people.
Wii - Fantastic device designed to rob the young and elderly of there hard earned pocket money and pensions. Hugely popular with people who are amazed by the technology in digital watches and escalators.
Xbox 360 - Superb gaming device powered by steam and held together with gaffer tape. Enjoyed by Gamers who take their gaming so seriously, they don't mind the radiation poisoning emitted from the Samsung fusion core stapled to the mother board that's steadied with blu-tac.
PS3 - The Ultimate in chic for the discerning techno-phile movie buff who wants to experience HD movies at the highest clarity. Not only does it require planning permission to install, it also comes with the handy ability to make the entire internet hate you and your family, straight out of the box! That's not all! With the use of patches, this fine "son of Beta-Max" can also play a handful of 2yr old Xbox 360 titles!
It's a gripping race, and only time will tell who will be victorious!
