360, PS3 and PC owners in for 2D fighting treat, though release date is unconfirmed
It might not be a huge surprise, but Capcom’s confirmation that its upcoming arcade title Street Fighter IV will also be coming to consoles and PC is certainly welcome news.
A release on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC is anticipated later this year, though no firm street date has yet been announced.
SFIV packs some graphical oomph, mixing colourful next-gen 3D visuals with the series’ traditional 2D fighting mechanic. Characters confirmed to make an appearance so far include fan favourites Ryu, Ken, Chun Li, M Bison and Guile. A number of new faces have also been confirmed, including Crimson Viper, Abel, El Fuerte and Rufus.
The gameplay will also see a host of enhancements, with a new range of moves including Focus Attacks, Super Combos and the Ultra Combo system.
Capcom’s Street Fighter series has to date sold over 25 million copies, spread across 59 different iterations. The best selling of those is 16-bit classic Street Fighter II Turbo, though other successful outing include Street Fighter Alpha 2 and Street Fighter III: Third Impact.

Great news for the PC market! With my 360 controller this will rock!
yay =)
Can't wait to try this one out. I'm not a huge street fighter fan, loved the games but im not an avid player, but as a 360 owner my choice of fighting games isn't really my taste. The games are good but their styles don't really appeal to me (i'm a die hard tekken fan) so a renewed beat em up is just what i've been looking for.
At the very least it will be fun nostalgia. I bet Chun Li's ass rocks in 3D lol
What really is happening?
I have to say this is weird - Capcom Japan asked all the media to hold off on the news till it is confirmed, by MCV is now saying it is confirmed? And the Winter release date has been totally refuted by Capcom Japan?
If you just don't want to see the arcade version make any money in confused speculation just say so!
Re: What really is happening?
Nobody goes to arcades anymore anyway. Given, a new Street Fighter might be the title to get a few people down to their local flea pit arcade or bowling alley but its hardly going to set the world alight.
Re: What really is happening?
I still go to the arcs, as do a lot of my mates but I'm well aware that we're a minority.
The simple fact that Capcom are not producing UK cabs shows that they are well aware that there is no market for it in the UK so surely a console annoucement with a date or not isnt going to affect arcade takings?!
Either way, I'm chuffed there is going to be a home version as finding a cab in the UK is going to be as rare as hens teeth.
Re: What really is happening?
It is always the same blinkered argument - "oh no one goes to arcades" - then when its found that there is still a very popular arcade business "oh those guys are just hardcore and don't matter!"
Lets face the facts, the bowling, cinema and family entertainment center (FEC) market still generates a impressive revenue for the amusement business. There is a strong possibility that FEC business will be a crucial retail aspect of future cash crunch markets.
The arcade version of SFIV, Rally3 and Rambo are just some of the new titles that could pull a new audience back to coin-op. The attitude of certain media to try and write-off anything that could see arcade return tells us more about how difficult consumer retails future will be!
Don't write off what you don't understand - because if arcade was dead... why are we talking about Street Fighter IV, Tekken 6, Sega Rally 3 etc!
Re: Re: What really is happening?
Ive been a massive street fighter fan since i could remember, even now i still play on my ps2 when i get a chance. The Vs X-men and Marvel were absoulutly amazing. X-men Vs street fighter on the arcade machine made serious money with ques of guys behind waiting their turn so an arcade version of the new Street fighter will be a massive hit as its been how long since the last one was made? Neways does anyone know the date for its realese on the ps3? Cant wait, Hadu-ken
