UBIDAYS '08: Far Cry 2 boasts epic single player campaign

Producer says solo game packs 50 hours of gameplay

As well as making some bold claims about Tom Clancy’s EndWar, French publisher Ubisoft has also been waxing lyrical about its much anticipated FPS Far Cry 2 – claiming that the era of ‘blasting demons with plasma rifles is over’.

Far Cry 2 has received a excitable reaction from press following a new gameplay demo at the Ubidays event. The game’s creative director Clint Hocking stated:

“The time for running through dark corridors and blasting demons with plasma rifles is kind of coming to an end. Bad action movies are about shooting people. The best action movies are about people.”

CVG is also quoting producer Louis-Pierre Pharand as saying: “Just on single alone, gamers can potentially have close to 50 hours of game play.”

This is put into perspective when considering Call of Duty 4’s single player campaign, which clocked in at around five hours.

COD4 had about 5 hours (for me it was closer to 10 cus i haven't played a COD since the first one) but it was quality from start to finish. Very well polished and great diversity.

50 hours would be fantastic and great value for money, but only if the quality is kept high throughout. I'd just hate the game to come out and play it and realise that it would've made an incredible 20 hour game instead of a dissmal 50 hour one.

btw i'm being pessimistic because the idea of far cry 2 being 50 hours is sweet and i don't want to get my hopes up too much (not yet anyways lol).

COD4's single player is about 5 hours on medium, try playing it on the harder settings (as you should with any game of it's type to get the most out of them)

Speak for yourself, sabs - I find most games quite irritating on the hardest setting. And as much as I love COD4, I did think possibly its weakest element (maybe its only weak element?) was its handling of the hardest difficulty. Halo 3, for instance, whilst by far the inferior game overall, does boast more convincing AI on the hardest setting and is a more enjoyable challenge. COD4 on that level was just infuriating.
