UBIDAYS '08: There’s more growth to come

Chief executive Yves Guillemot says games market has plenty of boom left; predicts peak in 2011

Following an exciting couple of days for French publisher Ubisoft, chief executive Yves Guillemot has told Reuters that he sees continued growth in the games market for at least another three years.

"There could be a peak in the consoles market in 2009, which means a peak in the games market from 2010 or 2011,” he stated.

"As far as I'm concerned, I don't think we have seen everything the market can offer us. We are really in a new revolution because new clients are arriving on the market. If we can give them good quality the market won't peak straightaway."

Guillemot went on to add that the reason that he believes this console cycle will enjoy prolonged growth is down to the constantly evolving consumer base it now enjoys – thanks in most part to the rise of ‘casual’ gamers.

Aside from the headline grabbing Ubidays announcements concerning titles such as Far Cry 2, Beyond Good & Evil 2 and Tom Clancy’s EndWar, the firm also announced seven new casual titles for its Games For Everyone range. Head over to MCV’s sister site CasualGaming.biz for the full low-down on those.
