UK CHART: GTA IV holds off GRID

Rockstar title beats out Codemasters racer as Wii Fit fails to chart again

Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto IV has made it five weeks at number one in the ELSPA/ChartTrack All Formats rankings – seeing off a stern challenge from Codemasters’ Race Driver: GRID, which debuts in second spot.

Sales of GTA IV dropped 22 per cent in the week, but it still manages to hold onto its coveted top position.

Sega’s Mario & Sonic refuses to stop bothering the top five, rising from fourth to third with a 66 per cent rise in sales as a new, glamorous TV marketing push begins.

Nintendo’s Wii Play rises from fifth to fourth with a 40 per cent increase in sales, but it’s another Wii title that might snatch the most interest from industry watchers: despite mass popularity, Wii Fit fails to chart in the UK Top 40 for the second consecutive week.

Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 takes fifth place, up two places from last week, whilst Ubisoft’s Haze drops from No3 down to sixth.

Elsewhere, Eidos’ PC-exclusive Age Of Conan tumbles from No.2 down to 16th place, whilst Sega’s Superstar Tennis rises from 15th to seventh.

1) GTA IV Rockstar
2) Race Driver: GRID – Codemasters
3) Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games – Sega
4) Wii Play – Nintendo
5) Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 – Konami
6) Haze – Ubisoft
7) Sega Superstars Tennis – Sega
8) FIFA 08 – EA
