Retailer teams up with CBS to bring GameStop TV to over 4,000 outlets
US retail giant GameStop has launched a new TV ‘channel’ in association with CBS Outener and media software and services company Reflect Systems.
The new in-store digital video network, GameStop TV, will be installed in over 4,000 GameStop locations.
GameStop TV will feature product promotions, game previews, developer interviews and other customized content, as well as advertising targeted to GameStop's 73 million monthly young game enthusiast shoppers.
The network has begun a rapid rollout and will be completed during 2009. CBS Outernet will manage advertising sales.
GameStop TV will also features CBS programmes, including content from CBS Television, CBS College Sports, Last.fm and other CBS Corporation properties.
"GameStop is gaining more brand traction every year, and part of our success is creating a fun, exciting store environment where our customers like to hang out," said Mike Hogan, SVP of marketing at GameStop.
"The digital GameStop TV network will add a new dimension of excitement and community to our locations, while at the same time providing excellent opportunities for advertisers."
"This deal gives our national and local advertisers access to the very attractive and hard to reach 18 to 34 male demographic," said Virginia Cargill, CBS Outernet president.
"GameStop has been very successful using in-store advertising to boost its sales, and we look forward to providing an even more impactful network that keeps their customers informed and entertained."

cool
I liked GAME radio, very smart idea and worked really well. This looks like the obvious next step, I wonder if its just video or if there will be sound eg: interviews as its a cool idea but i'd prefer listening to music than someone talking.
Re: cool
Here is the really awesome part for employees of GameStop. It will be hooked up to the DSL that is being installed in all the stores this year, so updates will download automatically, thus removing the need for, "GameStop TV," each month.
Here is the really super awesome cool part. It will be rigged so that if you turn it off, or turn down the volume for any reason, a signal will be sent to the IT department and you will receive a phone call. "Is there something wrong with your GameStop TV?"
Enjoy listening to the same 15 minutes of commericals all day, every day . . . forever.
