Top analyst predicts publisher won't escape EA's clutches - despite epic title's success

Top industry analyst Nicholas Lovell has said that despite the huge success of GTA IV, it won’t save Take Two from EA’s advances, with the publisher needing a “white knight” to step in to rescue it.

Lovell said the GTA IV launch has had “no meaningful impact” on the firm’s value, as the market had already factored its success into the share price.

“I don’t believe that the success of GTA has saved Take Two. EA says Take Two is worth $26 a share; the stock market says it is worth up to $27.95,” Lovell told MCV.

“That’s not a very big difference, and it still seems likely that investors would seek the certainty of EA’s cash over the uncertainty of Take Two’s shares, especially now GTA has released. However, it seems as if a number of investors have not yet taken the bait, and the FT reports that few investors have snapped up the offer,” added Lovell.

“I don’t think they’ve staved off the takeover, I believe that EA might need to sweeten its offer to $28 to convince the waverers, and I think that Take Two is either going to be bought by EA or will need to find a white knight to merge with or be bought by.”

WOW

So they are either going to be bought by EA or they are not ... if only I could've figured that one out I could become a "top analyst" :(

If Ubisoft are indeed interested as has recently been suggested it could be a good thing for Take 2 as I see Ubi as publisher that would complement the GTA brand.

What does everyone else think?

And I bet you lot are just gamers. Seriously. Either accept the fact that these types of stories are useful for people who ACTUALLY work in the industry or go away.

As a gamer I DO find stories of analysts predictions for the future and discussion of current events but this guys "analysis" states nothing new, he makes no predictions outside of what is already common knowledge and does not contribute to those in the industry or gamers like me.

I think most people here who posted negatively objected to the re-hash of what we already know, not the type of news that it represents. If we didn't find these stories useful/interesting we wouldn't keep coming to MCV.

Everyone knows Take Two Interactive will never be own by EA or Ubsisoft just watch when shareholders say NO again. EA and Ubisoft both suck they make crap only.

Thats a bit harsh. EA back a lot of very good software teams albeit with an equal number of crappy ones. And Ubisoft made Assassin's Creed and the Tom Clancy range of games.

While the shareholders may have stood up to EA on principal they are still looking for some sort of merger because Take Two won't survive at the top on their own.

Most Tom Clancy's game suck they horrible not even hype helps them as for Assassins Creed that game is a mess way over hype the only reason it sold. I know EA got some good games like PS3 Versions only NBA Street series Need for Speed series SSX series but Take Two Interactive will sufer under EA leadership GTA will be a disater they will destroy it.EA loves one thing money they don't even know what quality or idea is anymore that's why no cares about them anymore. Take Two Interactive will not be sold and if they sell trust me it won't ever be EA maybe Sony will buy Rockstar Games because GTA...

Would you all like more stories about 'fragging'?

Perhaps a few pictures of ladies scantily clad?

@12: Thats a matter of opinion, i personally liked those games but even if i didn't i can't disregard the fact that they have sold so well and are very popular IPs. I agree about EA not buying Take Two but i think they will be bought by another struggling company, not by a big one like Sony. In a merger with an equally uncertain company both sides have something to gain, if they merge with a big company its more of a one sided affair.

@14: lol oxyMORON indeed.
