Peter Moore: ‘We’re never satisfied’

EA Sports boss talks up high standards as he makes cheeky gag about Take Two

President of EA Sports Peter Moore has said his division is ‘never satisfied’ despite its successes.

Writing on his blog, Moore also couldn’t resist making a cheeky reference to a ‘competitor’ – highly likely to be EA acquisition target Take Two.

The post comes after – and was possibly inspired by – Strauss Zelnick’s speech at the 28th annual Piper Jaffray Consumer Conference earlier this week, in which the Take Two chairman said 2K Sports games ‘significantly out-rated’ their rivals.

Moore heaped praised the successes of the EA Sports brand during 2007, confirming that the brand enjoyed seven million-selling releases.

And in what could be a light-hearted response to Zelnick, Moore referenced his famous 'GTA IV' tatoo in his conclusion by writing:

‘We’re hitting this season in terms of quality and innovation stronger than we ever have at EA Sports.  If I’m wrong, you’ll see me sporting a new tattoo  - maybe a competitor’s logo?’

Highlights from Moore’s blog include:

‘To set the record VERY straight (despite what you might have read to the contrary in the last day or so…), we had:

•    Four EA Sports titles get Sports Game of the Year nods by various outlets, including FIFA, NCAA Football, Madden and NHL.  Of course NHL was consensus best in class, as I mentioned a few days ago.  Named sports game of the year by seven publications.  No one comes close to that.
•    Three EA Sports titles in the overall industry top 20.  It was a great year for videogames, and Madden was No. 1 in sports and No. 4 overall.
•    Seven platinum titles (more than one million units sold).’

‘We’re never satisfied. There’s always more we can do.  It’s what we love about our business. I hate to sound like a cheerleader, but the facts are the facts.

'And I don’t expect them to change any time soon. We’re hitting this season in terms of quality and innovation stronger than we ever have at EA Sports. If I’m wrong, you’ll see me sporting a new tattoo  - maybe a competitor’s logo?’

keep on walking...

Thats a joke. I'm not going to be completely biased and say their games suck because they don't, they have high quality sports games and i'm sure i've enjoyed many a gaming night with several of them.

However i hate hearing the words EA and innovation used in the same sentence nevermind the same article. They let their games stagnate and the only change each year is the star on the front of the box, the licensed music and maybe a few updated stats.

My idea of innovation is coming up with new ideas that will add to the game you currently have. With EA Sports, everytime they come up with something new, like a new game mechanic or mode it means the removal of the previous years "innovative" modification. They don't add content, they simply replace it.
