‘PEGI is crucial for UK industry’

Head of ELSPA thanks Government for support – but pushes position on age ratings

ELSPA has flown in the face of Dr. Tanya Byron’s recommendations by stating that adoption of the pan-European PEGI age ratings system for games sold in store and online is ‘crucial’ for the UK industry.

Director General Paul Jackson praised the UK Government’s decision to review the prospect of Canada-style tax breaks for homegrown developers, but took the opportunity to say that the power fo PEGI rival the BBFC was of ‘immediate concern’.

Jackson said:

"We appreciate comments from Government about its support and the work being done for the UK video games industry. We look forward to working closely with them in the near future to make good this commitment.

“Of immediate concern is the issue of age ratings where it is crucial that following the public consultation on games age ratings, the UK adopts the Pan European PEGI system for games sold in store and online."
