UK CHART: MGS4 guns down top spot

Konami title becomes 2nd fastest-selling PS3 release ever; LEGO Indiana Jones still ahead of GTA

Konami’s Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots has hit No.1 in the ChartTrack/ELSPA all formats chart – knocking LucasArts’ LEGO Indiana Jones into second spot.

The stealth action title becomes the 2nd fastest-selling PS3 game ever, behind GTA IV. The Rockstar epic drops another place into third position this week.

Sales of LEGO Indiana Jones only dropped by nine per cent, bolstered by strong sales of the DS version and the release of a new PSP version.

Sega’s Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games is a non-mover at No.4, whilst a special Father’s Day bundle helps push Nintendo’s Dr. Kawashima’s Brain Training back into the Top Ten, up from No.12 to fifth place.

Elsehwere, and after 2 weeks in the All Formats wilderness, Wii Fit returns to the Top 40, re-entering at No.10 thanks to renewed stock.

1.3 Million copy's sold of the first day of sales FYI.

I would say MGS4 one of the best games I have ever played, I would say it is equal to or maybe better than MGS1..

About bloody time Sony!

There gonna need more "wow" type exclusives like this if they want me to part with my readies. Currently, this is the only reason I would want to buy a PS3.

Well done Konami.

And as woodins said, this is the only game that makes me want to get a PS3, but sadly £300 is not justifiable for one game. I'll wait.

I'd been saving up to get a PS3 and MGS4 having fallen out of love with my 360 last November and I can honestly say I have been blown away. This is simply the BEST game I have ever played by a country mile. The graphics are super smooth and beautiful and it is just incredible fun.

I have totally justified my purchase with this one game, I've only had the console since last Thursday and I have not regretted it one bit. I think all those Sony doubters (well X-Box fan boys) that spread a load of false negativity about the PS3 that put me off buying one sooner should never be trusted again. This game proves the PS3 is ahead of the 360 now. I've just started to play the online version (for free!) last night and not had one problem online and I stupidly believed what I read that the PS3 was rubbish online. Not one bit. I also downloaded Gran Turismo 5 from the PS Store on the weekend and this blew me away too. Now I wish I bought my PS3 last month nearer my birthday than waited for MGS4 because I would have been happy playing GT for the last month on its own.

Anyone thinking of buying a PS3 (either as a PS2 upgrade or a swap for the ageing 360) will not regret it. It is simply a class product all round and definitely has the games that people claim it doesn't. It is the best £300 I've spent. Well done Sony and Konami.

Agreed.

@Domo: i am a PS3 doubter, doesn't make me a 360 fanboy. MGS4 looks fantastic and i'd love to have a go at it, hopefully one of my friends will let me if they can unglue themselves from the game lol.

But like stevo said, you don't need to bash the 360 to make MGS4 look good. Everyone knew it would and its hopefully the first of many like it for the PS3.

I have the game myself and am enjoying it but my stores late night opening was a waste of time.
EVERYONE NEEDS TO BUY THIS GAME!

Maybe it was china taking back their wall???

someone has reported it and mcv have done their moderating duty of removing your comment as these comments aren't for flames but rather coherent or atleast relative discussion. if you feel the same way about post 8 and have taken action then leave it in their hands to deal with...

DONT WHINE AT THEM!!!

Im sure they are busy doing their jobs and will do it when they find the time.

i apologise for calling you a fusser domo your clearly just friendly with your ps3 usb port.
anyway i must say as great as metal gear is its not really shifted any consoles we have sold 140 copies though which is pretty good for an indie and at least the margin was good enough to bang it out at 37.99.
im not sure if this is a killer title though having played it through i felt that the cut sequences got very annoying and i would never want to play it through again. where as gears, halo etc i did.
hopefully little big planet will be the breakthrough ps3 needs because this is def the first step.
