‘Nintendo DS centres’ rolled out across UK

DS focused store space launched in GAME, Argos, HMV, Zavvi, Toys R Us, Woolworths and Asda stores

Nintendo has revealed the launch of 30 new Nintendo DS Centres within a wide range of top name UK retailers.

The centres will promote the popular handheld and give customers the chance to play on demo games of DS titles, with videos, TV commercials and the opportunity for current DS users to download demo software for their handheld.

Already in operation, the Nintendo DS Centres are set to increase in number as the year moves on.

In-store demos are available now for Sight Training, Nintendogs, Big Brain Academy, New Super Mario Bros, The Legend of Zelda; Phantom Hourglass and Animal Crossing: Wild World.

I hope this means stores will finally get rid of those stupid looking wii booths which are really just glorified dvd machines and instead replace them with playable DS's.

I like the idea of downloading the demos as well but how will this work? Is there some expansion slot memory on its way?

Wi-fi my good man. Sony did a similar thing for a while for PSP but they are both a bit pointless as you lose the content as soon as you switch the machine off. Its nice if you happen to have your machine with you but not worth travelling for

Oh so its only temporary :( that sucks hard. My DS is a brick so i'll not be bringing it down to get a demo of a game thats been out for 6months+.

Maybe if the demos were new releases i'd be tempted.

If it was some phenomenal exclusive that really got consumers excited - say new Pokemon or something - then I'd see the point

sounds like a good idea. only concern is that every chav and his/her chav 16 year old mother will be there trying to nick the DS demo console.

@ ka0znrky

Good news and bad news. The good news is that they've replaced the crappy Wii video units...

The bad news is that they replaced them with the same crappy (same design) Wii units that update the video footage every once in a while.

I do like the new DS units though.

Nintendo have already done something similar to this with there download stations. They were a fantastic idea, being able to download content for games is a great idea however shops didnt look after them, I went around 4 different Toys R Us's every weekend for a month and every time I went I got "come back next week" all that for some rare furniture for Animal Crossing.. I never got the furniture :(

If this works and they stop people from hogging it and look after it then it should be nice.

has anyone else had the big plastic white units drilled into the wall of your stores yet. we had them about 3 months ago and they look nice but the downloadable content from the ds pod that came with it is pointless and we have had loads of chavs try to nick the console from its metal harness.
still better than ms and sony (sony have been promising me a bravia for about 8 months to display there products and ms have never offered anything other than the odd poster.
