THQ confirms UFC game

UFC 2009 Undisputed will be released this spring

It’s been a poorly kept secret, but THQ’s Ultimate Fighting Championship game has been officially confirmed by the publisher.

Titled UFC 2009 Undisputed, the game will over 80 mixed martial arts fighters across five weight classes. Players will be able to attack their opponents with styles such as Brazilian jiu-jitsu, muay thai, and kickboxing.

"As the leading fighting videogame publisher, we feel the rising popularity of the UFC brand and its incredible mixed martial arts experience make UFC 2009 Undisputed the perfect addition to our expanding portfolio," said Bob Aniello, senior vice president, worldwide marketing, THQ.

"UFC 2009 Undisputed is certain to be the most realistic fighting game to date, including advanced collision detection and AI systems that incorporate individual fighter styles."

The title is due for release on Xbox 360 and PS3 in Spring 2009.

Finally!!

C'mon THQ!!!

This game will probably be crap but hey, it will be the first UFC game since the XBOX and Gamecube versions which were basically just the Dreamcast version with slightly better graphs. Poor.

I cant wait for this game!!!

However, what I dont want is for THQ to turn 'MMA' into a buzz word and start peddling this great sport out to masses in the wrong way.

Next thing you know, there will be headlines on papers saying 'ban this sick filth' etc. I dont want to have to defend my all time greatest sport up against a bunch of morons.

UFC provides a great gaming opportunity as the market has yet to be saturated with it. Wrestling games started off pretty poor, i mean i loved WWF warzone and the ecw and wcw games but they were terrible but look at them now (granted the last one was very sub-power from thq).

I don't think there will be much worry about a media frenzy around violence or anything as THQ games have always looked a little larger than life and i'm sure that style will be brought to the game.

Tbh i'm a little sceptical of how well this will do as THQ seem to have developed an EA Sports style of change one thing every year and up the graphics but maybe just maybe they will see this as a fresh start ... maybe :)
