There is a good reason why PS3 is in trouble, as SCEI is run by a bunch of English and Business majors who don't understand technology, English-major Hirai included. The fact is that not one non-SCEI employed programmer would rate PS3 above Xbox 360. In fact, PS3 fans complain why all the programmers are so anti-PS3.

The quality of PS3 library software is improving, that's right. But when you start so low, you can only do better.

Sony should'nt focus too much on MGS4.The game is good but has many flaws too, it isn't the masterpiece people are waiting to buy a PS3 worldwide.

Granted, my comments may be a little harsh but PS3 is defintiely last when it comes to a next generation experience.

I'm not saying that 360 is where its at but as a next generation gaming experience, it beats the PS3 hands down. You could argue with Blue Ray playback but I'm talking about a gaming experience.

i have both ps3 ( bought only for blue-ray) and xbox 360 the only games i have for ps3 are gt5 and mgs sons of liberty, and they are hands down the best graphics i have ever seen(not just cut scenes but actual game play)
i have my ps3 kicking out 1080 p and it runs through an hdmi output, which makes all the difference int he world (instead of componet)
the bottom line is that xbox has more quality games ( all sports games, bioshock) but the ps3 is a better system. peroid.

This guy is a marketing shill hired by Sony. I've got a PS3 going through HDMI to my TV. Picked it up about 2 months ago. They day I got it, I pickup at GT5 prologue. The day MGS4 came out, I got that too. These are the only games I own.

GT5 is a piece of crap, and after I beat all the challenges (there are hardly ****) and the S class... it just made me want to go back to Forza 2. But I didn't. Played GRID instead :)

The graphics in GT5 are hardly impressive, and man there's so much bad I could say about that game compared to other racers, but whats the point? If you're a GT fanboy you've probably been playing it since 2 or 3 and think its the best thing since sliced bread, its the "real driving simulator".

MGS4 on the other hand, showed me what the PS3 could do. There is nothing like this on my 360, not close. Still, its not ALLLLL that much better of an experience than anything I've had on the 360. Oh, I unlocked my Foxhound medal last week, too ;)

Anyways I know this guy is a shill because the first 2 months I owned my PS3 I thought, "damn this worthless POS, why don't I just take it back?" Then it collected dust after I beat GT5 (excluding some Everday Shooter play) for a month. After I got and beat MGS4, my opinion switched to "well this is alright... I'm glad I have one now I just wish I hadn't payed 500$ to play MGS4." That is NOT what makes you the "better system".

Anyway now that I've beat MGS4 on Big Boss Hard with no kills/continues/rations I haven't really touched it in like a week. Occasionally I'll try and get in to the MGO online, but really I don't care all that much for it.

No I don't work for Microsoft, but yeah, I'm something of an anti-spin man. Forum marketing is becoming so prevalent these days and Sony is one of the few companies that openly admitted to employing this (absolutely despicable) tactic. I guess this was always going to launch a fanboy war - both the PS3 and the Xbox360 (and, in it's own special way the Wii - although it's not my cup of tea) are great consoles. Anyone who sledges one as being a waste of space or not a true next-gen experience is not a gamer, period. The main point I'd make is that the biggest online game this gen (COD4) was identical on both, and the biggest general game (GTAIV) was again, identical (in any practical sense) on both. I personally run with the PS3, as it'll have longer legs (Sony's consoles traditionally do - hard to program means less good games early, but better return over a longer period - take God of War for example), but anyone who can't have fun on either needs therapy! And yes, Kaz's comments are whack, but so are Robbie Bach's and many of that Posen fella's, so I don't think there's a need to get overly excited.

If this is true, why is it that on the boxes for all the PS3 games i've seen does it say that the max resolution is 720p? The PS3 only outputs in 1080p for movies, which isn't the kill factor for me.

I was ready to buy a PS3 last week, because I wanted MGS4 so much, but I stepped back and realised I might as well give a friend £50 to borrow his PS3 just so I can play MGS. There's what? Maybe 3 other games I want on the PS3, but i'm not going to buy a console for a handful of games.

Neither the PS3 or 360 is true next-gen. All they're doing is taking what came before and making it look shiny, or making the worlds more 'busy'. Sure, that's nice, but the only company that can really proclaim that they are 'next-gen' is Nintendo, even though the motion control feels tacked-on with a lot of games. Sony and Microsoft both need to step back and think about what being next-gen truly means.

I actually have decent games I want to play. Everyone is going on about MGS4 atm, yet the series has never interested me, and this one doesn't look that exciting. Yes the graphics are reasonable (better than everything I have seen on PS3 so far), but that is it. I play games for fun, not to wave my willy about how many mroe pixels my console can output.

360 is where the next gen is at for graphics and normal games, Wii for increasing the mass market appeal to people of all ages. PS3 is just a cheap Blu Ray player, and has done nothing to push the industry so far.

That was an interesting collection of different points of views. However, instead of ranting and raving like a 4 year old, I am now off to go and play my choice of console and enjoy the experience, rather than go and get upset because some stranger doesn't share my point of view.

@33 Nintendo did actually get to the market first with an analogue stick for the N64. The PS1 shipped with a digital controller and the Dual Sticks were added later.

That's not to say that Nintendo actually invented the analogue joystick, of course they were around long before that, but merely to point out that they were the first to get one on a home console with the well designed N64 pad. Great times playing Goldenye with that one.

I wish people would stop overlooking Haze when discussing next generation titles on PS3.

I currently own all three of the major consoles at the moment and I'm absolutely positive any "TRUE" gamer will agree the Xbox is currently where it is at, but this is only down to Sonys incompetance.

Where is 'HOME', where is in game XMB allowing voice chat, look what happened to 2.40 yesterday with it being pulled from the network due to major issues !!!

My conclusion along with most of my mates that own both PS3's and 360's is plain and simple. If you want a stereo typical, sit in your room alone playing console the PS3 is the way to go. If you want an Online, games machine which is as much a social event as the game itself get a 360.

Its is also documented on numerous websites that at present with the same game playing on both consoles the PS3 has only ever matched or lagged slightly behind in terms of graphics and display etc. No matter what TV you are using.

P.S. Please give up on the RROD and 1080p, the new generation xbox's have all but solved this problem with HDMI and different internals to the originals. and by the way all 360 owners got 3 years warrenty out of it bet there is no PS3 with that !!!

All 360's output in 1080p regardless of the HDMI connection. I have a launch 360 running through component into an LG 42" TV @1080p. Not every TV supports 1080p over component but that doesn't mean the 360 doesn't.

I have to say, that after finishing MGS4, if anyone still believes that it is:-

a) A true Next-Gen title and
b) Only possible on the PS3

Then they haven't looked that closely at the game. I am a game developer and believe me, I have looked very closely. The only thing I can imagine wouldn't fit on a DVD9 is all the uncompressed audio. Everything else is part of a tiny game, made bigger by making you move slowly round it. Level design, texture usage, modelling detail is nothing beyond anything out there on either system right now. Mass Effect had over 20,000 lines of dialogue and a game world about 1,000 times bigger than MGS 4 and that wasn't on a Blu-Ray disk.

First of all:You actually didnt look close enough.
When you look at all the details in MGS 4(the Expolsions during battles,the character models, the Snowstorm in
Act 4 and i could point out much more) you should see
a "true Next-Gen title".

On the other hand theres Mass Effect:
- The Levels look like they have been made with a simple map editor,not to mention the "details" and textures
you can see on the planets you can land on.
- the Animations(facial and movement) look like nothing compared to MGS 4.
- There is no Depth in Gameplay, Just run and gun(extremely disappointing when you know that the developer is BIOWARE)
- For an RPG extremely short(in 20 hours through Story Mode + visiting every planet!!!)
- the Story is crappy and has been seen in 100 other games.
- the framerate is horrible, especially in the laboratory levels
on the snowy planet(5fps) .
So "you see" there is actually no chance for Mass Effect
to be better in any part of the game then MGS 4.
And dont think I only have PS3 and hate the 360
because I like them both but the 360 has become a "just shooters" system.

GT5P - NOT 1080p in-game. (it's 1280x1080 I believe)
MGS4, NOT 1080p in-game. (if I remember correctly, it was a strange resolution that got downscaled to 720p first)

Sorry Noid, just because you have 1080p as an option in your display settings, doesn't mean every game runs in 1080p. In fact, 99% of games don't run in 1080p and there are some that WON'T run in 1080p. LBP for instance will drop to 576p if you take 720p off the option list in the display settings. There's a forum on the net that takes screen buffer images of 360 and PS3 games and it will tell you EXACTLY what resolution the game runs in. Which is how they discovered that GTAIV doesn't even manage 720p on the "True next-gen" PS3.

You can thank Sony's stupid decision to only put a horizontal hardware scaler for games in their "next-gen" hardware. As a result, upscaling causes a hit on the CPU, unlike the 360. So it makes you ask, why are there so many "True next-gen" features missing from the alleged True Next-Gen console?

Oh and 360 in 1080p, I have 2, one a launch console with component that runs in 1080p and an Elite with HDMI, that runs in 1080p. And they never run in any other resolution than that, because the games don't tell them to "secretly" change resolution to mislead the gamers.

Yes, the character models were nice, but that's about it.

Maybe you didn't see the missing normal maps, the un-chamfered models, the low res textures. (all no doubt down to the restrictive memory architecture of this "True Next-Gen" hardware) Or maybe you just don't know what to look for.

Or do you think that a 30 second section of on-the-rails shooting section full of "Loading..." messages is what next-gen is all about. I'm referring to the section just after the battle in the grounds of the mansion if I remember correctly.

I'll concede that 90 minute cut-scenes probably haven't been done before...thankfully. Although there was a PS2 Manga style RPG that came on 3 or 4 DVD's that did get criticised for it's cut-scenes, can't remember the name.
