Dualshock 3 hitting Europe on July 2nd

UPDATE: PS3 controller with vibration function out on Wednesday for £39.99; ‘Almost all’ future releases to support pad

Sony has announced that its Dualshock 3 Wireless Controller will be made available for PS3 in Europe on Wednesday (July 2nd) for £39.99.

The wireless controller with vibration function will put truly responsive gaming power into players’ hands, shaking up gaming experiences when it arrives on PS3 this summer.

According to Sony, ‘Dualshock 3 also retains the high-precision, high-response motion-sensitive aspects that have made Sixaxis so popular.

David Reeves, President and CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, commented:

"We are delighted to confirm that Dualshock 3 will be released in SCEE territories in early July. We hope this will add to the intense gaming experience for our fans, as we continue to evolve PS3, its software and its peripherals.”

Almost all future PS3 releases will support Dualshock 3, and the controller is already compatible with many existing PS3 titles (firmware upgrade 1.94 required).

I think I would tend to rely on the info in the 'fully official' SCEE press release...

For 60 €, I'll keep my old PS3 controller, there's no way I'll spend so much for a standard controller.

Hi all,

Just to clear up any confusion (and as pointed out by someone above) this information came from an official Sony press release, rather than the semi-official Three Speech blog.

Cheers,
Tim

£40 for a joypad NO WAY that is far to much, 2 pads is going to set you back £80, You could get as many as 5 xbox 360 pads for that price and they are supposed to have a far better rumble, they describe the vibration in these pads as being more of a tingle than a rumble.. so for the price of Two of these pads and another £60 I could get a Xbox 360 arcade bundle...

Ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!

Genius, first its, 'the next gen doesnt start until we say so' and now this?

Sorry, I've been quite mean to Sony recently but come on, you cant really blame me when they're saying things like this?!

Granted, they've probably sold a lot of them due to the fact that its the official controller for the PS3 but I wouldnt go so far as to say its 'popular' and certainly not for those functions alone.

adam005 & Tim@MCV - I'd normally do the same, but seeing as they've cut & pasted it from the (I assume) official PR email/website, it's a little confusing.

40 squid? And I thought the 360 pads were scandalous at £32!

Allthough thinking about it a play and charge kit for the 360 costs £12-15 so maybe the dualshock isnt so overpriced.

@SvenOf9: Actually its about £33, if you look around. £23 for the contoller and £10 for the battery pack.
. . . And that would be a removable battery pack which mean you can just swap it out witha new one when it eventually fails to hold a charge. You don't have to return it to Sony to have a new one fitted, or throw the whole thing away.

I prefer the Msoft way of Gamepad design.
