Great list
A typical list of all the best sellers and most successful and commercially recognised games over the last 20 years, ignoring many of the 'actual' greatest games of all time and goes to show they know very little. No mention of System Shock, Fallout, Homeworld, Command and Conquer, Black and White, Sacrifice, Giants Citizen Kubuto, The Ultima Series.....
Re: Great list
This list is mostly superb! Shame there are no Sonic games and it's odd Super Mario Galaxy is there instead of Super Mario 64.
Re: Re: Great list
@1 - Depends how you measure success, really. A number of the titles you mention strike me more as your personal favourites rather than selections made onjectively.
@2 - I agree that SM64 was the more ground-breaking title, but Galaxy is IMO the better title. Comes down to whether a game earns its place due to techincal accomplishment or innovation.
Re: Great list
Top 50 lists are always going to cause dissent but it would seem in this one that the criteria changes from game to game.
Are they really suggesting that Sim City is one of the 50 most enjoyable games when played today? Even better than its sequels?? If the list should actually be titled "best games at the time they were released" then surely GTA3 had far more impact than its more recent successor.
Re: Re: Great list
No Elite, no clicky.
Re: Re: Great list
Marvel V's Capcom 2? Never seen that make any other list than "Top 1 Best Sequel to Marvel V's Capcom Ever!"
Wasn't SFII better in the Arcade?
Mario Galaxy over Mario 64? Really? I thought the only Mario innovation after 64 was "Stick a hoover on his back" or "Stick him in space and sprain your wrist controlling him"?
Where's Elite? Oh, hang on, you've got Wing Commander II...
Re: Re: Re: Great list
Well at least this one looks a bit more credible than the top 100 one Game released a few weeks ago.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Great list
Where is.....Command & Conquer, Motorstorm, Football Manager / Champ Man, Populus, Elite.....obviously they like their Nintendo stuff....
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Great list
Tetris on the PC? Surely one of the gameboy versions is the definitive version?
Also guitar hero better than street fighter 2? One re defined a genre, the other added a fisher price guitar to frequency....
This is Stupid
Where is Mortal Kombat or Sonic? I'm glad that Final Fantasy 7 was axtually listed. This list is the worst list ever. You cant mach the so many categories like this. Don't tell me that Tony Hawk was better than God of War... O.o I can't believe this kind of thing. And how can I match Silent Hill with Final Fantasy 3 or Tetris with Resident Evil? Who made this stupid list and from what angle did he made it?
@ 9
hahahahahahahahhaha amazing comment and so true. I admit Guitar hero is a lot of fun, but one of the top 50 greatest games ever made? what a load of *******s.
Re: @ 9
Deus Ex at #23 , Bioshiock at #28 ,whaat?!
WtF?
This list is pretty bunk. Where's the Oddworld games!!??
Re: WtF?
Also... What about The Biggest Selling Game of it's day Football Manager on Spectrum,C64,Amstrad etc We sold millions of it. Also Atic Atac, Jet Set Willy, Sabre Wulf, Oh My Goodness the list is endless. A possible better way to make the list is to break it up into decades and then by the various consoles & computers. Nice subject to reflect on remember all those fun & frustrating hours of play...Cheers
Greatest
Wow, we have such super powerful consoles and computers, yet the best game ever is Tetris?
Strange in my opinion. Maybe most of the voters have never played Zelda, Halo, Silent Hill etc etc
Re: Greatest
"Somehow i don't think making blocks vanish in tetris can compare to the stealth mission of Metal Gear Solid. Here is a more realistic top 10. 1)Zelda ocarina of time 2)Metal gear solid 3)Perfect dark 4)Final Fantasy VII 5)Resident evil 2 6)Halo combat evolved 7)Half life 2 8)Soul calibur 9)Sonic the hedgehog 10)Gran turismo. I hate Mario! "
Re: Re: Greatest
"Please could anyone give an opinion on the top 10 that i picked as I truly believe that plenty of people would have a very similar list? For example you might swap Perfect Dark for Goldeneye.
Re: Re: Re: Greatest
Here's my top ten:
1. Ocarina of Time
2. Final Fantasy X
3. Final Fantasy VII
4. World of Warcraft
5. Any of the Metal Gears
6. Ratchet and clank/Jak & Daxter series
7. Oblivion
8.Gran turismo 3 A-Spec
9. Mario 64 or Donkey Kong 64
10. CoD4: Modern Warfare
These are just my top ten, not saying these ARE the top ten in all history. Most of the people that post comments about how bad some games are haven't even played them.
