Developers pledge PS3 Trophy support

Firmware 2.40 is live; Super Stardust already patched, Uncharted and Burnout to follow

Following Monday’s clarification of Sony’s plans for its new Trophy system, the first games supporting the update have gone live – and more developers have pledged their support for the new rewards scheme.

Firmware 2.40 was made live this morning and is now available for download from the PSN network.

A patch has been released for downloadable title Super Stardust HD which allows players to begin unlocking Trophies straight away.

In addition to this, developers Criterion and Naughty Dog have pledged their support to the system and vowed to offer Trophy support for Burnout Paradise and Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune respectively at some in the future.

The King Kong Effect

While its great that PS3 owners finally have "Trophies" i'd hate to have completed a load of games to then be told if i do it again ill get rewarded ... simply because i would do it lol. Achievements have me hooked, never try for 1000 points but i'd be lying if i said i don't have the achievements in the back of my mind while playing a game.

I wonder which developer will be first to realise that if they make their "didn't-sell-so-well" game really easy to get trophies in then they will find sudden spike in sales for that title (eg king kong) from achievement/trophy junkies much wore than myself.

i am confused! i have many other games that i have completed such being virtual tennis 3. Does this mean i cannot see the trophies i have won? or will i need to wait for the developers to patch an update to the game? or will i need to start over?
thanks

I think these will only be good if they are put into single player only. The state of online console gaming is already a joke trophies would just make people bigger jackass's and give them more to argue about. People would rather go for an achievement than help their team.

You'll have to play through again. It stops people from copying their friends' saves and getting InstaTrophies. In the case of SSHD which I've been playing on all morning, it doesn't matter, as it doesn't really have a storyline. Hoping they'll patch other games soon though.

A point to make is it takes ages to 'level up'. 8 bronze and 2 silver trophies and about 85% of the way to level 2.

I, for one, wish it was possible for trophies to be give by save data, but sadly, that probably will not be the case.

While this will be a pain for anyone who already completed a game i think its coming in at the best time that it could as any later and the games available for PS3 would be bigger. I think Sony knew they were always going to get knocked for it over these points but atleast its out and within a year it'll all be forgotten.

2.40 crash

the latest software update for PS3 saw the new trophy system for some, whilst others saw only a blank screen!
Unfortunetly, the big hipe over PlayStations new trophy system burned to the ground...leaving a small minority of PlayStation unusable, what has PlayStation done...taken the update down for maintenance which is the best thing to do i surpose, but what about the people who have had there console crashed? No one knows?

I myself have downloaded the new update only realising that ingame messaging wasnt all that! Players can only message whilst on singleplayer or when not playing an online match...disappointing at best!

What about the people like me who have downloaded the update with no real problems but then comes the new updated version will we have to wait for another new update after the finished version of 2.4 or can we download a safer version at the same time as others?

I think your concerns have been answered. The new update 2.41 was released today, with everything 2.40 had without the fatal errors. Personally, I had downloaded the 2.40 version and I havent experienced a single problem. You are wrong about messaging, I have successfully used it both offline and online in cod4 and gtaiv, as well as online in warhawk and offline in super stardust hd. You need to get your facts straight, unless the update affected you worse than you thought, which is the most likely.

For those of you who downloaded 2.40 with no problems, you still have to download 2.41, which seemingly does nothing but I guess adds stability to the system. The full effects of either update can't really be seen until new games are released or old ones are patched to support custom soundtracks and trophies. Except super stardust hd, which has had custom soundtracks for months and now has trophies, and is in my opinion the best psn game bar warhawk.

SONY SCREWS US OVER

So we wait years now weeks with 1 game that supports trophys? This is garbage. Sony is dropping the ball with us and does not give a damn about the consumer. If it was not for super stardust HD we would have no support. Why did they not have at least 5-10 games with the launch of this? It is just so hard to believe that with each passing day SONY finds this acceptable. The loyal fan base is being damaged by this as the new. Its all about money no one else wants to add support until they see the spike in sells STDHD has. Then people will jump on the wagon with worthless and stupid trophys. Way to screw your consumer yet again sony. Its not the DEVS only for these games. Sony announced in a previous issue of EGM that almost all PSN titles will launch with support.......and we get 1 for 3 weeks? Sigh......
