2008 provides most successful H1 in history
ChartTrack has confirmed to MCV that the first half of 2008 has broken all previous records and become the most successful ever.
Games retail has benefitted hugely from the release of major titles including GTA IV, Wii Fit, Mario Kart Wii and Metal Gear Solid 4, while ‘long tail’ and casual-gamer-focused successes, particularly on DS, have pushed ChartTrack figures through the roof.
“In terms of overall software, including non-games, this is by far the biggest first half of the year ever,” said ChartTrack director Dorian Bloch.
A major factor in the success is undoubtedly the release of GTA IV, which has already sold well over 8.5 million copies worldwide and a stunning six million in its first week alone.
And at the other end of the gaming spectrum, despite some stock difficulties, the continued success of Wii Fit – and its £70 price tag – will have boosted market value figures considerably.

I'm guessing tomorrow there will be a report saying the industry is damned and there is a big drought to come. Seems like everytime an article like this pops up another one follows swiftly behind it saying the recession is going to hit us hard.
