New PS3 pad launched today; 'Close call' on day one stock
Sony UK has moved to reassure retailers that it will be providing ‘regular’ shipments of its new Dualshock 3 Wireless Controller this month – but admitted that it can’t guarantee stock for everyone on day one.
The firm announced the long-awaited launch of the controller this week, which finally brings the vibration function much-loved by PS2 users to PS3 in Europe.
As revealed by MCVUK.com this week (30/06), the peripheral launched in wider Europe earlier this week, but goes on sale for £39.99 in the UK tomorrow (July 4th).
Mark Howsen, PlayStation’s UK sales director, told MCV: "It's going to be a close call as to whether we can guarantee enough stock for everybody day one, however, we'll be making regular shipments thereafter, in order to satisfy demand."
Despite the ‘new breed’ of controller, Sony has put its faith in the continued sales potential of its Sixaxis PS3 pad – DualShock 3’s predecessor.

Howsen added: "We'll continue to offer the Sixaxis controller for the time being, giving consumers a cost effective buying choice, based on their gaming needs. Moving forwards, we'll monitor demand at retail."
President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe David Reeves commented: "We are delighted to confirm that Dualshock 3 will be released in SCEE territories in early July. We hope this will add to the intense gaming experience for our fans, as we continue to evolve PS3, its software and its peripherals.”

Not going Sony's way this week
Sony are not having a good week this week. First 2.40 retraction, then the very long awaited DShock 3 arrives over priced and under stocked.
Come on Sony. I know you are playing catch-up, but please sort this out. Its actually still cheaper to import this controller from Japan duty paid than it is to buy in the UK; Thats if you can find one!
Re: Not going Sony's way this week
Why bother buying a UK version when you can import for £9-£10 less in price which is what everyone I know did.
Re: Re: Not going Sony's way this week
Another Sony press release, bought to you by the Official Sony Web Site.
Shortage?!
Don't see any shortage of these at retail myself, but if it is the case its blatantly Sony creating a shortage.
Re: Shortage?!
Surprised there is a shortage at all, considering the price. I wish i earned the salary you P3'ers must obviously earn to pay for the hardware lol. Bit harsh with regards to the "official sony website". I think they have been more than balanced in the past, and i think that any other hardware release by the other two hardware players have had just the same coverage.
Hope when i buy mine next year they make a bundle with two pads or they come down to a more reasonable price. Or i will just import like everyone else lol.
Re: Re: Shortage?!
I love the spin Sony have put on this whole debacle. It was a mistake not to use the vibration function in the first place. They fobbed of Nintendos just announced technology and then after zero six axis innovation from developers have decided to play it down and release this "all new" controller. Its a total joke that these are even selling, and should be price at £20 to trade for £29.99 retail, not £26 trade for £39.99 retail. A shameful attempt at ripping off the consumer when it was Sonys fault to blame.
I mean what on earth is exciting about relaunching existing technology? The cost price cant be more than £5 on these either.
Re: Re: Re: Shortage?!
well i don't see any shortages, my suppliers said they had plenty of stock, maybe it's just to make people panic buy????
Re: Re: Re: Re: Shortage?!
Yep, at the moment we have plenty in stock. Methinks Sony are just trying to get people in panic buying.
Sony will just blatantly hold these in a warehouse claiming stock shortage like Microsoft and Nintendo have done in the past. I for one won't buy mine until I see a price reduction (he says *raises eyebrows*).
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Shortage?!
I have loads of money, but still I stole 2 of these pads to prove a point. On monday I will steal some more.I am bored.
