Reports that 2.41, an update to last week’s PS3 firmware release, will be made live in two days

Following Sony’s decision to pull its 2.40 firmware update for PS3, CVG is reporting that PlayStation customer support is saying that the firm will release an updated 2.41 patch this Wednesday.

Many 2.40 users successfully downloaded the update last week and have since been able to access features such as the in-game XMB and Trophy system.

However, following widespread reports of rebooting problems following its installation, Sony removed the 2.40 update from its servers.

Sony has yet to make an official announcement regarding 2.41.

Ditto, and more to the point why should I (we) pay for downloading an official update that breaks your hardware. I'm sure Sony will loose customers if they continue with this policy, as at least Microsoft were at least somewhat sympathetic and replace/fix your console for free in such similar cases.

@5: MS charge for online play, as they host the servers most of the time, and they were the first to really push online gaming (dreamcast only did it as an extra feature, rather than making it central to the experience).

Despite the different levels of service, how about we just agree that both companies are out to make money (I may be wrong, but isn't this what companies try to acheive?)

" cant help, as a 360 fan, to giggle slighty. Sony only want ££££".
At least PS3 dont get the 'Ring of Death' and have to get it repaired. Costs a bit of money that does....
I will now giggle back now.....

If you are going to reply to a flawed comment like #3 (seriously why would sony intentionally brick a customers machine, thats just ridiculous) then get the facts right first.

It costs MS to repair the machine, the owner of the 360 gets a replacement free of charge. You and #3 should go and giggle in your fanboy corners.

well said its just a shame something so simple as music
and points in game, is so hard to be acheived as the 360 does all this and more online as standard
