E3 08: Nintendo announces new Wii Remote

Wii MotionPlus to offer more accurate mapping of movements in 3D space

Ahead of its E3 conference tomorrow (and about 60 minutes ahead of the Microsoft conference), Nintendo has unveiled a new piece of hardware – an accessory that enhances the Wii’s ability to track a player’s movements.

The Wii MotionPlus attaches to the end of the existing Wii Remote and enhances the console’s accuracy in gauging the Remote’s position and movement in space.

Nintendo.com reads: “The upcoming Wii MotionPlus accessory for the revolutionary Wii Remote controller again redefines game control, by more quickly and accurately reflecting motions in a 3-D space.

“The Wii MotionPlus accessory attaches to the end of the Wii Remote and, combined with the accelerometer and the sensor bar, allows for more comprehensive tracking of a player’s arm position and orientation, providing players with an unmatched level of precision and immersion.

“Every slight movement players make with their wrist or arm is rendered identically in real time on the screen, providing a true 1:1 response in their game play. The Wii MotionPlus accessory reconfirms Nintendo’s commitment to making games intuitive and accessible for everyone. Nintendo will reveal more details about the Wii MotionPlus accessory and other topics Tuesday morning at its E3 media briefing.”

Nice. So to be able to play as competitively, and fairly, as possible, Wii owners need to buy one of these for each of their controllers.

Hats off to Nintendo, this is an excellent way of bleeding even more money from existing owners.

Now they just need to announce a new DS - a DS improved just enough to ensure hardcore players must re-buy the console - and they're laughing.

So how will this fit into the Mario Kart wheel or any of the other addons available - or we will have to put up with it being lessaccurate for these games.

I can see these sitting in Game at a horrific £24 99, I can also see a lot of people who have those steering wheel controllers for Mario Kart getting very angry

Why would it need to work with the wheel?
The remote is fine for racing games it just an add on that means games like red steel and the new starwars games wont suck so bad in the future..
