Square boss Yoichi Wada ends Microsoft’s briefing with an Xbox version of much-anticipated RPG
Microsoft is cheering a significant psychological victory with the news that Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XIII will be released simultaneously on both Xbox 360 and PS3.
It’s the first time a full, numbered instalment in the FF series has debuted on more than one machine, and (with the exception of MMO FFXI) the first time since FFVII that a new instalment hasn’t been a PlayStation exclusive upon release.
Closing the Microsoft press briefing at E3 this morning, Square boss Yoichi Wada told a fevered crowd:
“At long last, the day we have all been waiting for has arrived. It gives me great pleasure to unveil this today – especially an Xbox 360 version of the latest in a series that has shipped 85 million. It is planned for release.
“We believe that releasing a 360 version will allow us to provide a game to even more fans in North America and Europe. And we’re working hard on its development. Last of all, I‘d like to thank [Microsoft boss] Don Mattrick for giving me the opportunity.”
A mysterious – and hugely impressive – video trailer showed the title in its full glory, with a female and male protagonist who have been ‘marked by the fateful ‘cie’ – making them destined for greatness.
There were many futuristic elements to the game’s tableau, including a sprawling metropolis-like floating city called Pulse.
No release date was set and a full format list was not confirmed.

I wonder how much Microsoft paid for this? Echoes the time when FFVII was supposed to be released on the N64 before Square went and slept with Sony. That affair made the last ten years of the main FF games exclusive to PS but now it seems Square's gone and gotten itself a nice old sugar daddy.
I have both systems but couldn't bring myself to play FF on xbox without feeling dirty and needing to have a shower afterwards. Hopefully versus will be PS3 exclusive.

Hmm. Wonder how many disks you'll need for the 360 version though. I have both consoles and I'll get this on one disc blue ray thank you.

Disc swaping has been there for ages, see the PlayStation and Saturn. *Nobody* complained.

Never, the N64 never had the capacity for videos...would have never happened anyways.
About FFXIII on 360...its not about Squarenix, its just sony's fault...they screwed up with PS3 and they just lost the main reason why ppl wanted to buy a PS3.
Thank god i havnt bought one yet...ill probably go with an XBOX after all.

Theres nothing for u 360 guys to look foward too in this game, (unless u played it before). I believe this is a PS3 exclusive because it has been released on the PlayStation 1st. As a ps3 fan i will say im looking foward for this game, what have u 360 guys got to say. Deep down u know this is a PS3 exclusive cause it belongs to the ps3. Dont get your hopes up 360 boys cause it may not be released for the 360, maybe the HD disc wont be enought to hold such capacity, BLUERAY BLUERAY BLUERAY BLUERAY BLUERAY BLUERAY BLUERAY BLUERAY BLUERAY BLUERAY.

It sucks that all of this has happened.. Square really has no choice, they've got to make their money. The creator of the FF series supports Xbox 100%.. He has a new company to boot. What i'd like to see if the ability to download all FF on PS3,PSP, and even 360. Remenber, it's all about the game.. I'll buy whatever sys to get to play the games i like. Blueray is the future, but it's going to take time for Companies to show you what they can do. So E-mail them.. Let them know both what you want and how you feel. The future belongs to us.. We pay the bill(spend $$). I am Wirerat on the playstation network.(if you have a PS3)

Listen to all of you with your fanboy this fanboy that, and Capo you're just plain out stupid. Look at the sucess of Lost Oddesy on xbox, xbox has proven it can handle imense RPG gaming and the issue of disk swapping? It really makes no odds to be honest, i would rather disk swap than spend 400EUR on a PS3 that is just a glammed up blu ray player.. Thats really the only thing better than xbox..
Xbox are now saying that they are going to change their os to be a more user input one to support other features like little big world etc, you wont see playstation doing that because they want to keep their image that sleek clean.. Look what they did with the "trophies" funny that, and they messed it up. Both consoles have their ups and downs, it really doesnt open a door for argument it just allows people to have a variety.
Square are just after saying it will be on both consoles, i would imagine that these ridiculas online arguments have something to do with it and square do not want to be involved. Its just straight out ridiculas.
And i have both consoles. To be honest, i use the PS3 for BluRay DVDs and xbox for gaming because at the moment (as usual) PS3 games are so much more expensive when there is just no need..

It is going to be on 5 DVDs since XBOX360 only uses 8.54 GB (single-sided double-layer) DVD. While PS3 uses 50 GB (dual layer) Blu-Ray.
