Acclaimed developer says shooter represents a ‘new direction for its games’
Global publishing giant EA has announced that it has struck a deal with Doom and Quake developer id to publish its upcoming FPS Rage on Xbox 360, PS3, PC and Mac.
Built using id’s Tech5 game engine, the developer’s CEO Todd Hollenshead said of the game: “Rage represents a new direction for our games. It is a shooter unlike any other, developed on our cutting edge new technology, and built to the exacting standards id is famous for. We’re excited to have the support of EA Partners to launch Rage on the world.”
EA Partners’ senior vice president and general manager David DeMartini added: “The Rage publishing deal is the epitome of EA Partners’ mission – provide the world’s best developers with access to the world’s best publishing resources. The team at id Software is one of the best development studios in the world. We’re excited to work with id Software to give Rage a blockbuster launch on the global stage.”
The move represents another big PC signing for EA, which already produces the global phenomenon known as The Sims and enjoys partnerships with leading PC developers such as Valve and Crytek.
The move also represents the end of id's long-term publishing relationship with Activision.

Calling it "the end of id's long-term publishing relationship with Activision" is a bit of a stretch.
They're still working together for the next Wolf.
