China Town Wars set in modern day Liberty City
Nintendo has shocked the industry by confirming that Grand Theft Auto is coming to DS.
GTA: China Town Wars, which is also set in Liberty City, boasts new characters and free-roaming gameplay said to be similar to its next-gen cousin.
UPDATE: The official press release gives a few more details - it reads:
"Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is an entirely original entry into the critically acclaimed Grand Theft Auto series, and brings a new level of interactivity to its sprawling open environments."
"With the use of the DS touch screen, players will navigate their way through the streets as they uncover the truth behind an epic tale of crime and corruption within the Triad crime syndicate, delivering the unprecedented amount of depth that has become a true trademark of the franchise."
"This is a game that will deliver a rich, fast-paced and intense 'Grand Theft Auto' experience that will be truly unique to Nintendo's handheld platform," said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games.

Now all we need is a hardware/accessory attachment to stop piracy that has to be plugged into the GBA slot in order to play (how about a GTA plug in thingy like the GH fretboard?)
COD 4 redux?
COD 4 was released on the DS at the same time as the 360 and PS3..and proceeded to sell very poorly in the US and everywhere else. Expect GTA on DS to have equally bad sales. The DS crowd simply don't buy shoot em ups that much

Must agree with #2 if such a big title isn't just gonna fall by the wayside thanks to mr R4, then some kind of hardware add on needs to be made available in order to play..For the first time this year ive actually taken pre orders for a ds title and had to order more than 2 copies (Guitar Hero.)

Fantastic news! I have COD4 on my DS and it is a fantastic title, admittedly I think I'm the only one of my DS owning friends (all around 30 years old btw) who enjoyed it, but, what do they know?!I played it, finished it.
I don't own a console, I have an aging PC, (which does play COD4) so right now, the latest titles for me are played on my DS.
