Why are you all arguing over this? If you all would take a minute to research everything that went in to making MGS4 possible on the PS3 you would see why he said that. Yes, I do belive that it could be on 360 but maybe you all need to listen to the MGS4 podcast that was put out before the game even came out. He said that is for PS3. You all really need to play this game and look at the surrondings in the game. For instance, every phone in the game is a Sony Ericson phone, Every laptop and computer is made buy apple. There is even an ipod in the game. There is to much stuff that is Sony and apple branded in the game. There is also stuff dating back to the first ps1 in this game. By the way the 360 will run laps around the PS3 both Graphically and speed and the speed its mainly due to that ****ty blue ray that only runs at 1x speed. The reason why games has to be ran from the hardrive, although speed could be fixed if you will have an expansion pack with at least 256mb of memory added, then it would almost be the 360 equal, until then just continue to add compress data to the harddrive Morons.

The game eats up 5GBs of HDD space alone which does not include the additional installs in-between each Act (chapters). Not only this, nearly 50GBs of storage was used on the BRD. If it were to come out on 360, it woud be a 5 or 6 disc set. Requiring users to swap discs and run installs - unpractical.

Kojima-san had made so many custom touches to the game that would require script re-writing/re-voicing to remove all comments towards the PS3 and competing systems. Besides, do you think Sony would be pre-packaging the title with Playstation 3s IF it were not an exclusive?

Now MGO (Metal Gear Online)? That was designed to be multiplatform. This you might see on 360, but forget about MGS4 already. If you want to play it, go buy a PS3.

I own both systems and really enjoy both; its not that the 360 can't do this game but they are right i've beaten it and theres a LOT of psz/ps2 reference that would make no sence at all on the 360 version and unless you have the largest HDD for the 360 to load most of the content the you would be looking at 3~6 disk. now im no fan boy, im a gamer! and i loved Gears on the 360 and i loved MGS4 on the ps3 so i could care less about exclusivity just give me a game that when i look up at the clock i got "Oh crap I'm 3 hours late for work" because i got so caught up in it LOL

You are all getting way too uptight about this! If you have a quick search on the internet you can find a site detailing the problems regarding the processing power of the PS3. They had issues...it's not as good as it could have been...done. The Xbox isn't perfect either. Mine has been repaired twice now and there's been plenty of other stupid problems, with both platforms.

Ultimately most people buy one or the other based on what they want. If your priority in life was the forthcoming MGS4 or other Sony 'priority' titles then you probably bought a PS3. If you were more interested in Halo or Gears then you bought an Xbox. No need to get stressed! If after a period of time developers port any of these titles to the other consoles then brilliant. If not, just buy all consoleson the market and then you don't miss out on ANY game.

****ty programers which aren't able to program hardware would say that - the better ones likes to have tricky hardware like the PS2 (Look at GoW1+2!) which get's better from year to year... a PC-near Xbox360 is a well known hardware with no more tricks available anymore...

Just reading a few of the replies here it's clear that many of you haven't in fact played MGS 4. While MGS 4 would be entirely possible on the 360 I think it's safe to say it won't happen simply because of the major changes Konami would have to make to many of the Playstation references in both the plot/scripting and game play. The costs of having to rewrite a huge chunk of the script and pay voice actors to re-do lines would be far to reaching.

Of course, never say never, but personally I can't see it happen purely based on the points I've made.

to be honest i think these xbox fanboys can chat a very deep shade of ****, you take any developer e.g the ones that talked at E3 08, they say that they can create games that would only be possible on PS3, such blockbuster games like GTA4 & OBLIVION that were intially designed on a 360 have received better reviews and top reviewers such as IGN have concluded that the PS3 has the edge, now lets not forget the 360 has a years edge on the playstation, that can be a huge advantage in most scenarios but evidently here it isnt, the PS3 has 'untapped potential' that developers are gettin to know and now they are beggining to use the SPU in conjuction rather than seperatly this had made way for titles that can host 254 online multiplay this is not possible on an XBOX, i can guarantee that by the end of 2009 at most that the PS3 would have surpassed the 360 considerin it isnt even using 80% of its full power on huge titles such as GTA and 360 isnearly maxing out, also it may be one title but MGS4 is the biggest exclusive in my eyes and probably the best if not one of the best games as of yet.This next gen console war has barely started and 360's 33% failure will come back tobite it on the arse and when it does, you m/s camp dwellers would have wished you had got a job and saved up the extra money and emmersed yourselves in the rich sony experience which is the Playstaton 3, oh and finally then specs you have mustered up are bull**** they are theorectical specs that dont take into consideration the PS3'S ability to use the RSX and CELL simultaneously which i think you find would crush the 360's so called 'power', IBM's new super computers are CELL powered just take a moment and look at the big picture a years time and it will be sonys time to shine!!

thats the facts jack and thats all ive gotta say, plus im not a ps3 fanboy i actually own all 3 consoles includidng my 4 360's because of endless failures and i do have to say when runing side by side PS3 does only give a slighlty more realistic feel to GTA4 and many multiplatform titles before 08 were better on 360 that was because of the developers know what to do on the 360 now they have mastered the PS3 they are finally going to be able to top thehigh standards which 360 has set.

but if you look at GTA4, longer intial install times and the out come is smoother gameplay on PS3 that can not be denied, and yes it does take the piss but with such rich enviroments the game wouldnt be as smooth and fast paced if they did not include the HDD installs, i dont mind people that prefer the 360 but i dont like people that over look the facts that PS3 is making fast progress and is at par if not over taking 360, and i enjoy the console race because i own both i get the both of best worlds when they make each other better :)

Why do people always bring up the amount of discs as an issue?
I played LOTS of multi DISC RPGS on PSX/PS2 and now 360. MGS4 could be on 4 DVD9s is they didn't use uncompressed audio and I would be happy to play it.
All the APPLE/IPOD thins in game could easily be switched.
I hope it does come to 360 now just to shut up the bajillions of ignorant PS3 gamers, the game itself I couldn't care less about.

lets look at a few things

1.there is 1 lone title of MGS for the Xbox..Original Xbox that is, sad that its not backward compat for 360. I believe its Metal Gear Solid 2: SUBSTANCE. so the road has been crossed before. Granted blu ray wasnt around back then, still shows Konami isnt shy of trying to add additional coin to their wallets. Xbox should revive the backward compat project and surprise this game as bkwd compat. see how many 5.00$ used copies get sold, just for laughs..haha

2. I for one have not played MGS4 nor do i own a PS3, but if I'm reading the blog here correctly fellas.. says there are multiple references to SONY in the game? both visually and verbally..In addition to game controller layout..and Blue Ray coding that does not exist on 360, it'd have to be re programmed and re-coded for DVD layer....yes... it would take a long time to flip the game for 360 playability. Thus not making it available anytime (NO-TIME) soon..so Sony could ride into the sunset for a while selling consoles on it's exclusivitvity. Trust me the E3 announcement of the new Fall Update of the 360's dashboard's ability to load game content to the HDD has been long overdue, and truly eminates from the PS3's ability to do so..

In addition it isnt Sony's place to say what is or isnt exclusive to their platform, especially from a 3rd party game company like Konami. If the SONY emblem was part of their logo then they could speak on their behalf. Till then please shake & quake in your boots!! Moves are inevitable otherwise!!

I agree: 10 seconds to swap is much better than 3 min to install. Plus, now HDD installation is an option. And we must remember, uncompressed audio was necessary on PS3 because of memory restrictions, not present on 360. And remember FFXIII, DMC4, GTA4, UTIII, Assassins Creed and all those other before "technically impossible" titles, some of them now proved better on 360.

I remember reading something on kotaku where kojima said it was only possible on ps3 n not just because of blu ray disc, infact thats really not a issue, the game was designed from the ground up to utilize the ps3's architect and the cell. Metal gear solid 4 IS the best looking game on any next gen console, i dont see halo or mass effect looking this good and detailed and they were first party games on the 360, the same can also be said for gran turismo 5 prologue, the only better looking games on the 360 are multiplatform, its easier to programme for n less time consuming, n for that reason the 360 is nearly always lead platform n they optimize that, but when it comes to ps3 they just port it n make a few minor adjustments, the bare minimum, they dont actually rework anything significant, why do sony's 1st party games look better than the 360's?, yet the 3rd party's dont? its no coincidence, take off the wool from over your eyes.

MGS4 on 360 will not spent 6 DVDs because the movies (TV movies, when you change channels to distract your from loading) are not necessary on 360, because it loads much faster and dont needs that distraction. (over 2 MINUTES EACH LOADING ON PS3, EVEN WITH HDD INSTALL !!! Shame for top generetion, just like Lost Odyssey(360) have lots of loading, I hate this... )

Microsft can put anywhere upwards of 30 GB of information on one Dual Layered 9 GB which means MGS4 would take 2 Discs Total. And now with the availability to download all of your games to the hard drive and play them from there make any game possible on the 360. And Sony fanboys can cry all they want, the 360 graphical experience far exceeds anything the PS3 has done do date. That is perplexing in itself seeing as how Sony makes the best HDTV's in the world and yet another HD System has far Superior graphics.

System Performance:

XBox has 512 shared memory, PS3 has 256 MB system & 256 MB video. It is a wash.

The Cell Processor can perform 3 times the calculations per second as the XBox 360. PS3 wins *hands down* in this category.

The video card in the XBox360 is a little bit more powerful than the PS3, but a lot of the functions that are handled by the GPU in the XBox can be handled by the Cell Proc in the PS3.

On Blu-Ray:

i spent time playing my friends' consoles before i made up my mind. i chose the ps3 because i just enjoy their games more (you forgot to mention my favorite, motorstorm). until mgs4 came out, 360 probably had the better graphics, but that's all in the past now. ffxiii isn't exclusive anymore but who cares? at least it isn't a 360 exclusive (that would have been bad). littlebigplanet here i come!!

The other thing to mention is SDKs. When people write for 2 (or more) platforms, they have to ensure the code is similar on both and easily portable. This is done usually using a high level language such as C++. On the 360 the coding can be written similar to how many coders are already used to e.g. the PC and therefore production/development times can be slashed. But if you stick to one platform eg the PS3, you can make use of the benefits of that particular console and in particular you can also hit the hardware much more directly especially if you are using a low level language and not just the tools provided in the SDK. Most developers seem to rely these days on the high level languages (no bad thing though), which, as mentioned previously, speed up production using SDKs. As the SDKs improve for a particular platform, so will the games. This is why you tend to see great performance enhancements in the latter years of a console's life (compare GTA 3 to San Andreas, or even something like a FIFA game or F1 game on the PS2 to the same product a few years before and you can see massive improvements in frame rate, amount of graphics on screen at one time etc.etc. This is natural progression.) But what I am getting at is that no doubt MGS4 has had a massive amount of development done specifically to utilise the PS3s architecture and it will just probably be nigh on impossible to do on the 360 without massive amounts of redevelopment and rewriting. Can Konami really afford to do this and invest back into a 360 console?! I wonder how many units they'd need to sell just to justify these costs.

BTW I am not in anyway disrepecting the 360, but lets get real here, the game has been custom built for the PS3, just like Gran Turismo, and so I cannot see it on anything else without massive changes to the code etc. Unless of course Microsoft are prepared to fund such a task and prepared to accept the amount of time this will take and also the consequences if the game doesn't shift enough units.

These guys have a BIG correction coming in their smokescreen marketing tactics. The thing Sony has missed is the enjoyability factor and the price. I think Nintendo proved that nicely. Out of the 3 boxes I think the PS3 offends the most as far as price and ease of use enjoyment. I'd rather pay for a seamless online experience than get what Sony has to offer.

I have owned a 360 played the excellent 'gears of war' and the dire 'halo 3'. Neither of these two games have the history that 'Metal Gear Solid' has. Technically If this was to stick to it's original format, (the msx is dead) then this should be on the wii! I have had my ps3 for well over a year and have played 3 exclusive titles that are truly unforgettable. 'Metal Gear Solid 4' Being the best. Since the 360s launch I have played one! 'gears of war'. The game is as previously written, laced with branding that is so anti Microsoft, that I feel Mr Kojima hates the 360. If you really research the 360 hardware you'll find it technically inferior to the ps3. So as a Nintendo Fan Boy who doesn't need to shout racist abuse across the internet when online. This does not mean that it is more powerful than the PS3. The CELL B.E., found in the Playstation 3 and fastest super-computer to date "Roadrunner”, was co-developed by IBM, Sony, and Toshiba. In terms of raw processing power, the CELL is much more powerful and better designed for media applications (such as games) than the Intel processors found in PCs and the Xbox. Now, a processor is only as good as the application that runs on it and the application is only as good as the programmer who makes it. The CELL uses Parallel Processing, which can be complicated for the inexperienced programmer. Taking standard PC source code written for a PC processor to a system that uses parallel processing with different hardware architecture is a very difficult process. Normally the results are poor.

Some developers (example; Burnout Paradise developers, Criterion Games) have stated that placing the PS3 as the lead platform has helped them overcome the hurdles that many other developers have encountered. They actually stated that this helped them get more out of the 360 than they previously thought they could. Midway is following suit as they have switched lead platforms, now using the PS3. 360 gamers and PS3 gamers both will benefit from this move.

Lazy or unmotivated programmers cry about how difficult it is to code something. Programmers that like to be challenged (which all the good ones I know love challenges) will not complain about learning new technologies or techniques. These are signs of great developers.

Chill out fanboys. I own both a 360 and PS3 but I have to admit that the 360 isn't far less superior than a PS3. Games on the 360 have frame rate issues, Xbox Live is $60 a year, exclusives on PS3 are more appealing, need I say more? Playstation Network is free and will stay this way forever. Xbox 360 is so much better than PS3 because it is grey and has nice control pad and better graphics and green, sometimes red circle which makes me feel happy and then sad, also mine came with a game and i didnt have to sell my nan to buy one, she would have cried.

Now who cares if it the game goes to the xbox 360, anyone who would care would most likely already have the game for ps3. And it would have been quite a gap in between releases for the game.

all that ps3 gut does is brag not directly but you can tell theres some bragging in his words plus ive played the game and ive seen better on both 360 and ps3 like gears of war bioshock halo 3 motor storm so yeah I think the 360 can handle it and possibly even show the same amount of graphics

I don't own a 360 but I've played on one and it's pretty friggin' great, and as a PS3 owner, the PS3 awsome too. I doubt that MGS4 will be coming out for the 360, "doubt", but I also don't believe Gears of War will ever be coming out for the PS3. So we have our exclusive and you have yours, for now at least.

Okay so the 360 guys are like "The 360 is better, MGS4 is coming to 360", Okay so umm.. proof please, give me a source where Hideo Kojima said the words "MGS4 is going to be on the 360", cause honestly it's unreal, a DVD holds 4.7GB of storage, I was on Mininova the other day, and there was a download for the MGS4 Act 1,2 + 3Cutscenes (Theres 6 acts), and it was 9.5GB, now, you'd need 2 disks (Well just over) for that, and then theres more cutscenes in the last 3 acts, so lets estimate it at 12GB on the last 3 acts, thats 21GB just with cutscenes, AND THEN the game, so far thats 5 disks, and you need to install it which is like 5GB or so, thats 1/4 of your precious hard drive taken up...
So now tell me, HOW will it be on the 360 ?

Is it my mistake, or did sony lie about the processing power of the ps2 with it's so called 'emotion emulator' or whatever it was called...It took at least 4 years into it's life for a company to actually exploit the full capabilies of the processor. So is it the same with the ps3?...I remember buying a ps2 just so I could play mgs2...but I sure as hell aint going to fork out 400 quid for a console that looks like a giant brevel sandwich toaster..the only thing to differ the 360 from the ps3 is blu-ray...granted, the space on blu-ray discs is roughly ten times that of a normal dvd...but who cares?...surely it should be quality over quantity?...most games of notable stature that have been ported from the 360 to the ps3 have contained cutbacks..screen rate seems to lag, and the game doesn't run as smoothly...slightly off topic but I remember when I told a mate that wcw would merge with the wwf 4 years before it actually happened...but on this..I couldn't care less...it's one game...nothing to get ya knickers in a twist about...
