Publisher has tripled in size in the last year thanks to Blizzard deal and Guitar Hero sales
President and chief executive officer of Activision Publishing Mike Griffith has revealed the full extent of Activision’s growth in the last year, stating that the company has tripled in size.
The industry-shaking Activision Blizzard deal certainly had a major part to play in that growth, but that’s not all, said Griffith – franchises like Guitar Hero and Call of Duty also played their part.
“Guitar Hero on DS has sold nearly ten times what our next best DS title sold in the same time,” said Griffith during Activision’s E3 Media Briefing. “We’re still only scratching the surface of expanding gaming experience in mainstream entertainment.”
“It’s been a transformational year for the industry and Activision,” he added. “There’s been continued strong growth of hardware, expanding retail shelf space for games, price cuts and extended gaming feature sets that have made games mainstream social entertainment experiences.”
The titles showcased during the conference included Singularity, a new Marvel Ultimate Alliance title and Spider-Man: Web of Shadows – but Call of Duty: World of War, Bond title Quantum of Solace and Guitar Hero World Tour were the true stars of the show.
