I don't just mean 40g versions - I mean accross all older versions, this is unacceptable particularly as a high percentage of older people use them to play blu ray disks, and play games occasionally.

ya i think its a bad idea for the ps3 putting blu ray and playing the game in one hard drive. For example the ps2 its built in dvd but you coudnt use it as a dvd player coz of the le lens may have a problem when u play it as a game console and at the same time as a dvd player. Ps3 should c0nsider blu ray as an ad on feature like the xbox 360 edid.

my plastation3 isn't working well because it keeps on crashing every 5 minutes i've tried a cooling fan but that hasn't done nothing sometimes it doesn't register the game also when it crashes i have to switch it off a back of the ps3 because the front power button doesn't work when it crashes it plays dvd's though
