‘PS3’s problems are being resolved’

But console could still do with a price cut in Japan, says Famitsu boss

The president of Famitsu publisher Enterbrain, Hirokazu Hamamura, believes that PS3’s “slow penetration” in Japan is improving – but that it could still use a price cut before year end.

Speaking exclusively to Famitsu media partner MCV, Hamamura said:

“The PS3’s penetration pace has been slower than I expected. Its higher price tag and software development difficulties have been major causes for stalling the growth of its installed base. However, these problems are gradually being resolved.

“If the console gets another price cut by the year-end shopping season, I believe its penetration pace will become accelerated.”

In a full interview with MCV, Hamamura discusses the impact of Nintendo on the Japanese market, what Xbox 360 needs to do to succeed in the territory and much more.

wow... pure genius.... a price cut will help a product. i'm so glad that MBA is paying off. why not just make the ps3 free? that would really accelerate the product in Japan.

Doesn't he realise that its always best to start slow with "penetration pace" at first? Otherwise all sorts of accidents can occur, and all you get are feelings of disappointment and inadequacey.

You can talk about xbox360 red ring of death.. has anyone mentioned the failure rate of PS3 blu-ray drives? I don't just mean 40g versions - I mean accross all older versions, this is unacceptable particularly as a high percentage of older people use them to play blu ray disks, and play games occasionally.

ya i think its a bad idea for the ps3 putting blu ray and playing the game in one hard drive. For example the ps2 its built in dvd but you coudnt use it as a dvd player coz of the le lens may have a problem when u play it as a game console and at the same time as a dvd player. Ps3 should c0nsider blu ray as an ad on feature like the xbox 360 edid.
