Publisher not interested in pushing through a lower age rating

Capcom has promised that Resident Evil 5 is not about to shy away from gore in a bid to get a lower age certification.

“We’re never going to create a gore-free Resident Evil title to try and get a lower rating as it’s a game about the horror experience and gore is part of that,” said Rhys Cash, Capcom UK's research and planning manager.

“We’re primarily about making great games and if it’s appropriate to the title we won’t shy away from making a 15+ or 18+ title.”

He also stated that despite factors like the popularity of DS and Wii leading the industry away from adult titles to some extent, those consoles can still support 18+ titles:

Aardman

“As we’ve shown with Resident Evil 4 Wii and Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles there’s still a market for more mature titles even on these formats.”

“There’s no reason why an appropriate adult title should be seen as something to be shied away from. What I do see publishers moving away from is titles whose only raison d'être is ‘adult themes’ and only goal is to shock,” Cash added.

“Rating”

I wish rockstar did the same with manhunt2. I'm really getting pissed with this edited game stuff. If it's too much for you, don't by it. It's like smoking, no one forces you, but if you want, thats all on you.

OK - I get really annoyed when films are cut because some stupid marketing sales idiot decides that he can sell to a larger audience. What really happens is that the true supporters are put off.

I buy Resident Evil because I want to play a gory game. I play racing games because I want to play a 'RACING GAME' and so on.

Would you be happy playing a Mario game and just by starting a level you get a star and 100 coins??

Well done Capcom and I will be buying Resident Evil 5 for the PS3.

Thank you.

It wasnt the fact that R* were editing the game, the powers that be at the BBFC refused to provide any rating, which fundamentally means it becomes illegal to sell it, the ONLY thing that can be done then is to tone things down until you do get the rating.

OK, so the whole "lower the content of what you spent years planing and making because little Johny over there is only 10 and wants to play a game that is clearly directed to a mature audience" thing isn't really working for us true gamers. So I ask, why should RE games be rated anything less than "M" when the creator clearly intended to make a game that represents "REAL LIVE SITUATIONS"? To me, Resident Evil has always been about showing the players how things would be if this were to happen in real life. As far as I'm concerned, you can't rate real life "T" or "E". Real life is just not that innocent. So I thank the RE staff for refusing to make RE what is not. Let's be honest, if ever RE where to become a "T" rated game, that's the day when the Umbrella Corporation truly dies, and the day I stop playing Resident Evil. I don't want to do that.
