E3 to return in 2009

ESA confirms that expo will go ahead next year - but changes to format and location being considered

Despite vocal disappointment over this year's E3 from some high profile members of the global industry, the ESA has confirmed to MCV that the show will definitely go ahead again in 2009.

However, the organisation was unable to answer questions on whether the size or location of the show would change.

"As we do every year, we're beginning the process of surveying exhibitors and attendees to determine potential changes to the Summit," said ESA director of communications Dan Hewitt.

"Once this is completed and shared with the ESA's Board of Directors, we will make an announcement about the specifics of the 2009 E3 Media & Business Summit, which will occur."

Major execs such as EA CEO John Riccitiello and Ubisoft North America boss Laurent Detoc have hit out at the lack of buzz surrounding this year's show.

Invites to this year's E3 were limited to business and press representatives.

Would be nice to think that the UK/Europe would be included again to make E3 the show it used to be.

Budgets need to be considered all round, but its a show that has always made a BIG statement about our industry.

Liepzig can't quite make up its mind what it wants to be.... if they can't get it right this year - will the Execs make the decision to make E3 a glabal show once more?

@1. I totally agree with you. To quote Morrissey, "America is not the World", I think its about time Europe gets a look in. I think we can ignore EA's comment that it was crap, the glory hogging company that it is.

Roll on next year hey?

I say bring back ECTS or something similar in London over 3 days Choose the month

London is the perfect place it's easy for everyone to get to and there is definitely a void left by the absence of ECTS in the UK

As much as ECTS was a UK spectacle and a worthwhile visit, its down to the timing and the support of the publishing community that makes the show.

Sky Bar, Viper Rooms, Red Rock Bar & Santa Monica....... tough one to call.

If only the UK Publishing Execs could come together and agree something for London, then I'm sure it'll get off the ground. Seems something unlikely to happen though.

The Yanks have it again......

Isn't it gonna be a 15th year anniversary for E3 next year?
Would be great to be on form again, for such a historic number.

Ironically, the dodgy Santa Monica 2007 event, was the 13th E3 - bad luck, 'eh?
