‘Second-rate James Bond games a thing of the past’

Developer of Quantum Of Solace says it will change perceptions of 007 licence with new title

Developer Treyarch insists that its upcoming title Quantum of Solace, will draw a line under the disappointing Bond games of the past, whilst also claiming that it will represent a return to form for the popular franchise.

Quantum of Solace is set to be released alongside the movie this Christmas, and will be the first James Bond game to be released since Activision won the licence from Electronic Arts back in 2006.

“We’re not trying to fix anything EA did wrong, because that’s just what they did,” explained Quantum of Solace’s executive producer Garrett Young.

“I’m sure the series pissed off a lot of gamers over the last few years as the games started to go downhill, but we have no control over that.”

“The pressure we feel is more about launching this franchise in the right way. We know that you only have one chance to make a really great first impression, and this is it.”

Quantum of Solace: The Game makes full use of the critically acclaimed Call of Duty 4 engine, and combines both third and first person camera angles. It’s based on both 2006’s blockbuster smash Casino Royale and the upcoming new movie starring Daniel Craig, and Treyarch hopes the game can mimic both films’ inevitable success:

“We hope Quantum of Solace the movie will be very successful,” concluded Young.

“Casino Royale was tremendously successful so I expect this film will do well, too. And I’m confident that our game will do great on the back of that.”

I personally enjoyed a lot of the Bond games that have come out. GoldenEye was the best obviously, followed by Agent Under Fire and Nightfire. Those games were so much fun and I played them for hours.

Goldeneye standards?

Man I REALLY hope they could bring the 007 games back to the standard set by Goldeneye on the N64.

That is still one of the best movie-tie in and (the best) James Bond games I have played.
I hated the EA games - they felt like generic FPS games to me, with terrible spy/James Bond plots thrown in.

If Treyarch can take the franchise back to the standards RARE set - then it would be great.

Bong Gaming on Slippery Ground

Sure, it would take a lot to get past the awesomeness that was "GoldenEye" for Nintendo 64, but after the awful "Tomorrow Never Dies" and "The World Is Not Enough" games for the PlayStation, the Bond games began to gather their footing once they hit the PlayStation 2. Sure, I was a little disappointed that a "Die Another Day" game didn't come out, but after those last two busts, I don't blame them. Taking the games in a different direction with their own storylines was an interesting idea. "Agent Under Fire" was okay, but "Nightfire" was a really good game and "Everything or Nothing" was among the best. Even "remaking" "From Russia With Love" into a game was entertaining. So, what's all this talk about the series going downhill? Do they mean after "GoldenEye"? Because I only see a slope.

Once i seen the name Treyarch i knew the rest of the story would be BS. They always say they are setting a new mark or standard yet they constantly fail to even reach the old ones. Kings of mediocre games ... and the real kicker is that with the new bond reboot the stories for the games could actually appeal to gamers as they are much darker and more action based than the older bond stories ... so all they really need to do is get the gameplay and gfx right, maybe next time :(

Bad Bond

Every single Bond game since GoldenEye claimed that this would be the one where they got it right. And of course every single one has failed to live up to that claim. I don't expect much to change this time around. The fact is, that in order for a new Bond game to live up to the impression set by GoldenEye, it has to do more than just be as good as GoldenEye was back then. It has to blow away present conceptions about what a multiplayer title can be, and have a phenomenal single player experience as well. Unless Treyarch can dominate the best efforts set forth by Bungie, Infinty Ward, Valve, and others then it is just not going to live up to expectations. I don't see that happening.

PErsonally, I never really liked Goldeneye. I thought a FPS Bond was a waste of the license. I really liked Everything or Nothing.

I think that Goldeneye was the best Bond game ever! I didn't play Agent Under Fire but did plat Nightfire and thought it was very good! (and personally...i don't think Daniel Craig is a very good Bond!)
