Underworld will be 'first product of new studio-led business model'; Eidos looks to No.1
Eidos is banking on Tomb Raider: Underworld to prove its new studio-led business model can compete with the best in the industry – and is eyeing the No. 1 chart position in the lead up to Christmas.
The company last week announced that the title, developed by Crystal Dynamics, would be released on November 21st.
Eidos’ head of UK marketing Jon Brooke told MCV that the firm has very high expectations for Lara’s new adventure – and feels it is ‘nailing’ its campaign.
Brooke commented: “Since moving to a studio-led business model this is the first game to really benefit from our new business ethos and everyone here is committed to making it a huge success.”
He added: “With Tomb Raider: Underworld we feel we are really nailing it; our community is buzzing, our first game assets are really hot, the game code has wowed retailers and press alike and our numbers are supported by years of heritage boosted by our first synchronised all formats ship at Christmas.
“It is a major release for Eidos and it is genuinely exciting to see Lara back in time for Christmas, so we can see exactly what she’s capable of.”
Brooke added that Eidos believes Underworld could be the biggest-selling Tomb Raider game of all time.

In doubt...
Regardless of whether or not this latest iteration of Tomb Raider is any good or not I have to ask, is the Tomb Raider franchise big business anymore? Granted Legend and Aniversary put the travesty that was Angel of Darkness to bed, but I can't help but feel Lara Croft has had her day in the sun.
Re: In doubt...
Who cares. New tomb raider! Woooooot!
But seriously there are a lot of fans still out there and I'm happy to see them making up new adventures as long as they don't stuff it up too much.
Donbt, but not that much
Sure, it is ineviatble there will be some doubt over the durability of any brand/franchise/license that has had a couple of not-so-strong episodes. Despite this, given the marketing and develpoment efforts behind TR:underworld, I'd be suprised if retail did not support this product. If the game really is great, Eidos might just earn their No.1 position. FYI - I don't work for Eidos, honest.
Re: Donbt, but not that much
nobody works for eidos anymore do they?
Re: Re: Donbt, but not that much
Nope, only the PA's, the pot of "Phil Cheese" and of course those wonderful fellas in Marketing.
labelling Eidos No.1 BritPublisher is like saying i'm the best when nobody is around.
Just because your the only, doesn't mean your the ONE and only.
sounds like lies to me...
