Anti-knife campaigners pour scorn on application that allows users to ‘shank’ one another
Facebook is in hot water with anti-knife crime campaigners over a new game that allows user to ‘stab’ each other.
The application allows members to send a knife icon to friends, with accompanying text that informs them they have been ‘shanked’ – a street slang term for ‘knifed’.

Ridiculous
Thanks god they've taken this application off as it was making me want to go and stab some one. Get a grip!
What does this have to do with the games industry?
Seriously. You complain about the media constantly sensationalizing about the games industry, when you do it yourselves every week. Get a grip.
Re: What does this have to do with the games industry?
What does it matter? Anyone who is sad enough to need to put their lives on facebook probably wont get it.
Re: Re: What does this have to do with the games industry?
I don't want my son being 'stabbed' on Facebook. I don't see this story as over dramatising the issue – it's not a game with heavily restricted access for minors. It's a social networking site that actively advertises to teenagers and young people.
Re: Re: Re: What does this have to do with the games industry?
II think we should all and throw cakes at eachother instead!!!
Re: Re: Re: Re: What does this have to do with the games industr
Turns out it's only SuperPoke - one of the most common "do anything to anyone" applications on facebook. Essentially it's the same as posting a message on someones page saying "I have stabbed you" anyone can type whatever they like.
Calling SuperPoke a stabbing game is similar to calling Wii Fit a bludgeoning someone with a board game - sure it's possible to do it with the provided gear but you'd have to be unhinged in the first place to think it up then do it to friends.
Anyone suggesting that they would not like it done to them should either sort out their privacy settings or their circle of friends - you can't SuperPoke random strangers.

i can understand why everyone is mad with the whole thing you got to have abit of respect for those who have died because of the stabbings!!! Its the same as when young people play those video games and later kill themselves because they copy it, stabbings are bad enough in the world, don't encourage it! If i was a family victim of the vicious stabbings then i would not be happy if i saw that...

This has never happened. Please stop reading the Daily Mail. It'll just make you miserable. 43,000 less reported stabbings this year than the same time last year. You wouldn't believe it with all the shameful sensationalist journalism around at the moment.

I was a victim of having a cake thrown at me, which is something this superpoke can do also. The nightmares haunt me everytime someone superpokes me with thrown cake.
My mate had a sheep thrown at him in real life, after someone saw you could do it on superpoke.
It's not just the knife stabbing that are dangerous, it all the thinsg you can do on superpoke. Who is going to protect the children from cakes being thrown at them!
[Note: the above is not true, and is intending to be satirical]
I want the truth damnit!
I thought Facebook wasn't open to kiddies.
Stabbing adults is perfectly acceptable.
