I call shenanigans...the original negative story was pulled and replaced with this positively spun version. What happened? Sony Marketing call you guys and threaten to take away your toys? Or...just incompetence?

I think the previous story that was on earlier was a comparison of Q1 2008 to Q4 2007. Most likely Sony told them to post numbers comparing Q1 2008 to Q1 2007. Q1 to Q1 paints a much better picture numbers wise.

Sooo...Sony called up the gang at MCV and said "hey guys why don't you cherry pick the data and write an article that makes us look better"?...riiiight ...If MCV had amended the original article and added a footnote like "hey we've got some better data" and used the same comparisons to paint a brighter picture we'd all be able to actually appreciate an "updated article"...but that's not what they did is it? Not by a long shot. Sugar coating it and calling it anything but what it is is unrealistic and unacceptable. SHAME ON YOU MCV!

Lets see some comparrisons to PS2 (PS1 even) and compare how big the increase was from the first Q1 to the second Q1 of those consoles. I don't know the figures, but it would better illustrate where and how the video games market is going/growing, and see how MS and Nintendo have affected this.

Hi all, We did indeed pull the original story, as it was posted in error - the fairest comparison is to look at the like-for-like figures, rather than Q4 to Q1. Hope this makes sense.

The use of the term 'rocket' is overdoing things just a little, don't you think? It sounds more like a press release than a neutral, unbiased statement about an increase in sales.
