ELSPA dismisses Fleet Street scaremongering

Publishers' association responds to Telegraph report suggesting that Government has backed the BBFC

ELSPA has this evening responded swiftly to media suggestions that the Government has already picked the BBFC as the ‘official’ age ratings body for games - pointing out that the Byron review consultation period has only just begun.

A report in The Telegraph states that the Government is set to back the BBFC in an overhaul of the age ratings system – but an ELSPA spokesperson has told MCV that this is not the case.

"The reports in parts of Fleet Street are, we would suggest, purely speculation. It is scaremongering and should be treated as such. The Government is now entering into a consulation period in which in which we are assured all the issues are being considered."

"No decision has been made, and ELSPA will be fully engaged in this process in the months ahead."
