One of the biggest titles of the year goes on sale October 3rd, MCV can reveal
With consumer anticipation for the game already sky high – and some hardline PES supporters even admitting that it could be a Pro Evo beater – EA has exclusively revealed to MCV that FIFA ‘09 is set for release on October 3rd.
The latest in the ultra-successful FIFA series is scheduled for release on PS3, 360, Wii, PC, PS2, PSP, DS and mobile platforms, and boasts considerable improvements over last year’s edition.
“We’ve made over 250 improvements from last year and we wanted to give the team the time they needed to make the best FIFA game possible,” said senior product manager Trevor Uzice. “We’re continuing to build on the solid foundation from last year which saw us create the most successful FIFA both in terms of sales and quality.”
Game improvements include a 20-player online mode, more responsive first time shooting, improved goalkeeper AI, and an over-the-top arcade mode built specifically for the Wii. EA has also partnered with leading Premier League clubs including Arsenal, Chelsea, Portsmouth, Newcastle and Tottenham, in support of the title.
“We are continuing to work with Arsenal on marketing initiatives and we are pleased to announce a three-year deal with Chelsea, which sees us become their exclusive games partner,” continued Uzice.

“We are also working with several Premier League clubs on programmes which will allow us to build a closer relationship with fans around the country. Just as important to us is our commitment to the Football League and we will be working with all clubs from the Championship, Division 1 and Division 2.”

Oh yes!
Great news MCV, Thanks guys.
Re: Oh yes!
Is it really that hard to release this game at the same time the transfer window closes? As much as I love FIFA my hatred for EA grows exponentially every year.
Re: Re: Oh yes!
What a ridiculous comment. You really think the UK transfer window is the only consideration EA should be taking into account when planning the relase of its game. It's a European release and will depend on a myriad of marketing factors which you're clearly not even trying to consider.
Re: Re: Re: Oh yes!
I think its a fair comment Jonno. It's a football game for football fans after all.
Re: Re: PES
I don't mind if they stole something. I think FIFA is the best football game option for this generation. Forget about PES!

ME TOOOOOOO :)
Re: Re: PES
It's common knowledge that if you know anything about football you play PES. Fifa looks nice and has all the licenses but plays like Gary Linekers Super Star Soccer!
Re: Re: Re: PES
Pro Evo 2008 had a poor showing last year. Most veteran players went back to PES6 for their fix (myself included for kits, stadiums for PC).
From what I've heard, Konami will be going back to the PES6 game engine with full editing features included (not the shambles that was the photo edit). I hope this year there as good as each other this year because FIFA 2008 still didn't convince me to switch over.

Ooops, spelling mistakes. Must not drink while typing :D
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: PES
@9
And anyone who knows about video games knows that the last 2 incarnations of the once great PES have been abysmal. FIFA 08 and UEFA were leaps and bounds ahead of PES 6 and 08, and looking at the poor showing of PES 09 it doesn't look to change. Konami 'dropped the ball'.
i love fifa games
i love fifa i hate pro it would be impossible for me to switch to pro.
fifa is dum
fifa is not realistic in pro there is absolute control of the ball.
all that fifa has is skills, but in pro the gameplay is much greater than fifa.yh pro doesnt change cause it doesn'tneed to
unlike fifa where it changes all the time.
Re: fifa is dum
In both PES 6 & 08 it was entirely possible to run from one end of the pitch with one player, (regardless of player), not lose the ball once and then easily score. How anyone can say this is a true reflection of footy is beyond me? Now, I've always been a PES fan but FIFA 08 was bar far and away better this time around; passing plays and posistioning was not only better than any previous FIFA but it hugely overshadowed the quite frankly 'arcade' feeling of PES 08.
Real Football is PES 2008
PES is 'Arcady'..? Dude, come on. That is simply untrue.
PES has always been the benchmark when it comes to football simulation. I've never owned a FIFA game, whilst every one I rented was a complete farce. I didn't even consider getting FIFA last year when PES 2008 released a shocker.
With FIFA, the shooting is terrible, the passing is like Emilyn Hughes Soccer (which was a better game then), the skill moves are gimmicky, tackling is laughable. You can't string a 40 pass move together like you can on PES, that's for sure. Also, what's with the pathetic 'through ball' on FIFA that doesn't even work? How do you do a long-high through ball? Because that wouldn't work for me either. The run fast button is a joke and for the life of me, I couldn't defend free kicks on the game either. The game tackles you without sliding, but you can't slide without giving away free kicks.
What a bobbins game FIFA is! I'd rather play Italia 90 on Atari ST.
Just because EA dress up their dross every year with licenses and kits, IT DOES NOT MAKE IT A BETTER TITLE.
PES is real football and it's about time FIFA players admitted this, stopped talking through their backside and give KONAMI the credit it deserves.
If you want 'football simulation', buy PES.
If you want 'licences' and don't know diddly about the sport.. buy FIFA..
Re: Real Football is PES 2008
@16: "I've never owned a FIFA game, "
That's very obvious...
Re: Re: Real Football is PES 2008
@17: My housemate owns the FIFA series.. that's how I have been able to compare. You don't really deserve an explanation to be honest, because you couldn't even be bothered to defend FIFA against the points I have mentioned. Says a lot.
Re: Re: Re: Real Football is PES 2008
but that was when i ruled the world
Re: Re: Re: Re: Real Football is fifaf
I myself have alot fifagames,03,04,05,06,for the xbox and then 08 for the wii. I found it disappointing that it had no career mode and only had individual competitions and even that was only slightly made up by the ronaldinho games. But now that I've gone on the fifa 09 website and seen they've added a career mode I feel alot better about the release of it and can't wait .
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Real Football is fifaf
08 was good 09 i hope lives up to expectation but one annoying thing why don,t fifa get the rights to introduce nonleague just one would make it sound for pes not a fan at all!
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Real Football is fifaf
THIS GOES TO Bogie Eater!!!
you think you kno anying about soccer, yo my friend are very wrong. being able to go from one end of the court to another with the same player with ease is just crap for me. ( making this fifa better ). lets look at player movement
fifa 1
pro 0
grafix:
fifa 2
pro 0
online options
FIFA 3 PRO 00...
and many other things, plus the through ball does work, and if u said it youf self u never owned a fifa title before why are you acting like a smartass!!! n say all of that bull****. i have to tell you i was a pro fan but sincefifa 07 and even more improve fifa 08, to me pro died and there is no chance of resurection if fifa realy impoved as much as they say on 09. while pro is still stuk in te same **** as i used to pLay years ago. HOPE YOU GET A CHANCE TO READ THIS Bogie Eater. OHH AD GOOD LUCK WITH TH NEXT PRO TITTLE !!!!! LOL HAHAHA!!
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Real Football is fifaf
continuing they didnt have time to fit the thicks in 07 as they did so in 08. Even i being now a fifa fan i have to admit that 08 still had some problems. like responce times, but looks like its all gonna change now with 09s release. fifa has finaly won the battle and you know it.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Real Football is fifaf
My god i hope fifa have beefed it up this year and become a fluent passing, tackling, shooting gem of a game as i'm fed up with purchasing it in the hope that it will be better than Pro evo, only to find it dissapointing , slow and samey for me then to have to return it within the 28days return allowance the shop gives...Pro evo all the way at moment even with juddery frame rate at time and a non exsistent online mode..It can only get better for pro....but i wait with baited breath and gullible mind..again!
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Real Football is fifaf
i used to be PES all the way, Fifa used to be a gimmick, all about marketing and nothing about footiball. how things have changed. pes is now the same game it was 6 years ago. the game engine hasnt changed, u still cant even throw the ball from the sidelines to a player within a 10 yard radius,
fifa 08 for gameplay, was far more realistic, you could build attacks etc. however, the thing that sold fifa 08 to me was be a pro, if you love football, u wanna play against real people, not computer based simulated football... and i can tell u it was not a disappointment. i made a website called www.yourfifaleague.net n now play in league football which is really great fun. fifa 09 promises much more, be a pro as 10vs10. u can play lb, rb, cb, midfield, attack, whatever u want. also u can then play as ur own player, u, a virtual football player... making ur own stats better... sorry, but how on earth can pes compete with that. its like premiership football vs non league.
pes need to re-write EVERYTHING and start again. nothing they do short term will win me or any other pes fan that moved to fifa back unless a major change happens.
tbh, im actually glad we dont have to rely on the japs to produce a footie title.
thank god footie has come home.
Pes vs Fifa again
Having played Fifa 09 since Oct 3rd and downloaded the new PES demo from PSN, I can tell you catergorically that for all its bells and whistles, EA still haven't got the most important aspect of the game right - gameplay on the pitch. Everytime the box gets busy or a nunmber of players scramble for the ball, the frame rate in Fifa slows down noticeably. Not so in the PES demo - smoother, faster, harder, better (as long as the game plays the same as the demo that is). EA have once again ripped us off with an all-style ****e gameplay title. Inexcusable with today's hardware......
