Call Of Duty 6 confirmed

2009 release for follow-up to World At War; Infinity Ward to develop once again

The hype is still building for the fifith iteration in the Call Of Duty series, World At War, but Activision’s CEO Bobby Kotick has already confirmed that a sixth game is being lined up for 2009.

In an earnings call with investors, Kotick also said that the title would follow the series’ “leapfrog studio strategy” – indicating that development responsibilities would switch back from WoW creator Treyarch to COD4 dev Infinity Ward.

Kotick also confirmed a raft of licensed properties, including Transformers 2 and Marvel’s Wolverine.

Kotick said:

“As we look ahead to calendar 2009, even though it is early, the slate is strong. Our lineup will be anchored by: multiple new Guitar Hero SKUs; an all-new Call of Duty, utilizing our leapfrog studio strategy; and a completely reinvented Tony Hawk. In addition, we will launch Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 and we will have a number of movie titles, including Marvel’s Wolverine, Transformers 2, DreamWorks’ Monsters versus Aliens, and 20th Century Fox’s Ice Age.”

Why would Activision choose to release this info now, at a stage when COD5 will be up against several major competitors.. FarCry2 for example.. Certainly the franchise's move back to WWII will have an affect, and with news if its successor planned as early as 2009 one would imagine this news would unsettle any remaining COD fans?

Its probably just to reassure people. I mean i wasnt overly pleased with COD 3 and when i heard that Treyarch were making 5 my head sank. Nothing again them its just Infinity Ward make better COD games hence why 2 and 4 were amazing.
But thats just my opinion

Going back to WWII

I know its not completely on the topic of the article but I can't help thinking going back to WWII is a big mistake. COD4 has sold incredibly well and a big part of the reason for this is the move to newer times. WWII has been done to death and unless they bring something significantly improved or original to the game I fear it will fall into the pile with the rest of a tired genre.

Someone did say that both sides helped make COD5. So lets hope its not just a smelly fish...

I remember being asked on there website where would i like the next COD 5/6 set. You had a list to pick 5 places.

1 Vietnam

2 Space

3 World war 1/2

4 2020 (Future)

5 ? Cant remember this one.

I voted for Space!

Now this was months ago so its alittle grey but i think the list is close.

Does anyone remember this?

Now all we need is the kids banned from it and servers in the UK!

Well even if we "lost" the "conflict" of Vietnam they would make a huge profit with their endless talent on a game being set in this era. So trinity is making the 6th(possibly in space) sooo that leaves Treyarch to do WW1 or Vietnam(korea unlikely) my heads sagging already. Anythings gota be better then shellshockand vietcong tho sooo i guess thats a brightside?

there never going to make ww1 ...why you may ask because the whole style of warfare that was faught during the first world war would bored the hell out of many hardcore gamers. the main style of fighting that occured was trench warfare now i dont know about you but i wouldnt really want to play a game where my job is to shoot over a massive mud field then do the occasional suicide run at the enemy...

First and foremost, the suggestion of settin a cod game in space is so idiotic i havent got words for it....u expect ppl hu buy a game for world wars to buy a game in a completely different setting? with stupid f***ing laser guns and s**t? Anyone hu has ever played cod seriously and competitively will kno cod4 is by far the best in the series. Cod5 is looking to be epically bad, maps are terrible for any competitive play, guns are poor and its jus generally rubbish. Treyarch make attrocities (excuse my spelling) such as WoW and they bein employed to make a call of duty game? cod 2 and cod4 wer epic, cod3 was ****e and now cod5 is goin to be, wen will activision learn tht IW is the only compnay for the job?

.....oh and Rizzy tizzle "as long as its as good as cod4 we're ok" , this is the problem lol, cod4 is the bets in the series, so they only thing acceptible for cod5 is to be as gd as or better, which atm is most sfaely isnt even close to matching cod4. Treyarch simply jus suck

I just bought the COD 5 game and have not gotten a chance to play it yet. Ill be playing it tonight. COD4 was a classic but just was too short. I doubt that COD6 will be back in WWII. I think they will be a follow up of COD4. Another Installment of Modern Warfare: They should make it much longer. Make it more about special forces missions. that would be great.

Just got my hands on COD and COD2. I know I am way behind but I have to say that COD really reminds me of Wolfenstein way back in the day. Nothing special really. I mean, I like the sounds and effects, but I've played other first person shooters that would match COD. All I have to do now is try out COD2.
Cheers

to me call of duty is about great gameplay, i dont really care what era it is set. So long as it brings something slightly new each time. Thats what matters, and so long as theres great guns and great gameplay im all for something new eg space, future warfare etc.

Played cod 5 and its nothing compared to 4. Its the same graphics engine so its very similar and therefore doesnt bring anything new to the cod series. The reason its so disappointing is that its ANOTHER ww2 shooter with nothing to make it stand out from the rest! my advice...wait till cod 6 comes out and save yourself some cash.

lol r u serious that cod4 was a big letdown for you????? that is the greatest first-person shooter around the world & everyone knows that. & how can you say that cod5 is better & its amazing. cod5 is like a disgrace to cod4. all the weapons, maps, the story & all the other stuff suck in cod5. i give cod4 a 10/10 & for cod5 i give it a 4/10. the 4 is just for the dogs, tanks & nazi zombies, thats all!!!! nothing else!

I still think COD5 kicked halo's ass, the zombie mode and the ray gun where fun, the vehicles were cool. COD4 was badass, and COD6: Advanced Warfare is most likely to have:
Tavor
XM8
IAR
Javelin Missile Launcher
Ak-74
and maybe a gattling gun

although call of duty 5 was after so it should have been better, it so wasn't. cod4 was absolutely immense, in my personal opinion, black for the ps2 was a great fps, the best i'd played, but cod4 blew it completely out of the water, the story was great, the weapons are amazing, and the online multiplayer is by far the best way to spend my day i think. i bought 4 and 5 at the same time and thought i'd play them in order, tbh, i wish i'd played 5 first, it would have saved me alot of disappointment. if cod6 is set the same way as 4 then bring it on i say, if it is once again set in ww2, which is getting a bit old now, then please do bring out a space game, i'm not a massie fan of the idea but it would be alot better than the idea of yet another ww2 game where you just run around shooting nazis with no real enjoyment.

Alright are you all mad. well not all, but the majority who are saying it wud be mint to have it in space is totally crazy that is not war really :S space are u mad ha lol.
i think im sure other people agree, CoD 4 is by far the best and the expansion pack for online was just the icing on the cake, the story line however did not do the game justice but tbf it was still a great bit of gaming.
but for cod 6 it should definately be a follow up of cod 4.
I have not bought cod5 and dont intend to went round my mate who has it, and it seems bit boring see for me, medal of honor did theeeeee best world war 2 etc. i.e medal of honor frontline was just mint startin on that beach . that is true gaming love it.
gotta say also fifa 09 is mint tooo ha love it.

I have all 5 Call of Duty's, COD4 is obviously the best i have ever played. I've stopped playing it because i've ben playing cod5 now, its alright but, like everyone says, its WW2. Very un-original. For Cod 6 they should do a re-make of cod4, except a little more futuristic. not going into lasers and aliens and ****. but guns from today, 2009. cod4 guns are guns from the 90's and some from now. but like i said, remake of cod4, except add vehicles. Lots of them. tanks, jeeps, and helicopters. and they should have a game where its lke 32 or 64 people max in a room. Just straight war, kind of like ground war, jsut a lot more people. that would probably be the funnest game, besides search and destroy.

The next one should revolve around around the SAS and Navy Seals, or the other elite regiments,in iraq and other middle eastern countries or maybe even N.Korea where they have been doing their stuff. COD needs another break from WW2, and to be honest the cant really be that much stuff from that war to use. Vietnam could possibly be another good idea.

call of duty 6 better be alot better than COD 5 cuz infinity ward or whoever made it yet again went back to ww2.i was so dissapointed. i could not see a space COD 6 it would be the worst call of duty gamein the series right behind COD 5.i would enjoy a call of duty 6 in vietnam or one that carries on COD 4. the only reason infinity ward probably wouldnt do that is because america lost that war. so anyway just dont make a call of duty 6 thats in space cuz i wont buy it and nobody else will. it better not be in ww1 either because alll that will be springfields for the americans and crappy rifles for other countries, and trenches. hope u all agree

I honestly can say that CoD 4 was way better than CoD 5. I am sick of WWII stuff also. I hope that CoD 6 will be like CoD 4. I wouldn't buy CoD 6 if the setting was in space. That would not make any CoD fan too happy if a space setting CoD came out right after a not too good CoD 5. The best setting for CoD 6 would definitely have to be in Vietnam. I would sooooooooooooo buy the game if it was in Vietnam. Just hoping that it isn't no space crap... just wait and see...
