Sony looks set to stick to August 27th launch previously mooted at E3
A number of online retailers have begun taking pre-orders on Sony’s new 80GB PS3, which will go on sale on August 27th.
Whilst many are reporting this as new news, it actually just confirms the announcement made by SCEE president David Reeves at E3 last month. However, the listings do seemingly concrete some other details about the hardware.
GAME’s page reaffirms that the machine will include Sony’s motion-sensing Dualshock 3 joypad, but adds that it will not include any of the features that were removed from the older 60GB machine – these include PS2 backwards compatibility, built in memory card reader or SACD playback.
Additionally, it has just two USB ports and does not include an ethernet cable.
Other sites listing the machine include Gamestation and Play.com.

Yep sorry - is meant to read that it WILL NOT include 60GB features such as BC. Apologies.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: 80gb PS3
Getting confused with the release date on this, with some sites saying the 27th and some the 29th. Which is it?...
Release date
New releases are on a a Friday, so the 29th... Thats what our release schedule reads as anyways.
PS3
How is this different than the 80GB version I just bought at best buy that came with metal gear solid 4? I'm kinda confused now. Is this supposed to be slimmed down version?
Re: PS3
its out on 22nd now :D
Re: Re: PS3
In comparrison...what will this "new" 80GB PS3 not ahve compared to the "old" 80GB PS3...Detailed of course...and the effects...Thank You!
Re: Re: Re: PS3
So the 80gb PS3 is essentially the 20gb machine with 60 gigs more HDD space?
Oh, how I laugh at the people who mocked me for getting a PS3 at launch!
then again (bas the 360) every consoles launch system has always been superior to later revisions. The Mega Drive could barely play sound clearly in it's final MD1 itteration.
