Previous reports of a Taiwanese release are rubbished as Microsoft falls back to E3 stance
It appears that Square Enix’s colossally hyped Final Fantasy XIII won’t be receiving an Asian territory release on Xbox 360 after all – despite claims at a recent Taiwanese press conference to the contrary.
Having announced at E3 that Final Fantasy XIII would be released on Xbox 360 in Europe and America only, the hopes of a possible Japanese release had appeared to have been bolstered by the Taiwanese news.
However, Kotaku quotes Microsoft Taiwan as now saying: “At E3 2008, it was announced that Final Fantasy XIII will be available for Xbox 360 platform in North America and Europe. There is no plan to launch the game in Taiwan. We regret any confusion caused by this.”
Microsoft has also subsequently added: “There’s really no more to say than that as announced at E3. Final Fantasy XIII on Xbox 360 is scheduled for release in North America and Europe. There are no plans to release the game in any other region, including Asia.”

Would I be right....
...in saying that our friends in Asia are the number 1 buyers of RPG's? I have no idea if this is true or not, im just guessing to be honest!
So if xbox are only releasing the game in North America and Europe, does that mean the PS3 will have it everywhere else? I also wonder if the release of the game will be joint, such as GTA4?
Any idea just how many disc's will be needed for the 360?
Good news for both formats really.
Re: Would I be right....
It's not the case anymore, in most cases, RPG sales are better in Europe & US.
Who cares about the number of discs needed for the 360 version, besides PS3 fanboy weepers ? Blue Dragon was on several discs, and nobody complained about this.
Re: Re: Would I be right....
Just a question sammy boy, no need to snap. I have several 360 customers wanting to know about the disc situation, hence the none complaining question.
Re: Re: Re: Would I be right....
I just read on another site that the news of FFXIII being released on xbox has made a dedicated fan to "contemplate sucide"! That's one gamer that deserves the title 'fanboy'! Crazyness.
@ Sam
"It's not the case anymore, in most cases, RPG sales are better in Europe & US" Are you out of your mind?!?!?
Please have a look at the Japanese chat before you make such crazy assumptions!!
MonsterHunter on PSP is the biggest selling game so far this year (on all formats), Dragon Quest V is right up there too, Phantasy star just launched and did about 350,000 units!!
Whereas theres not ONE RPG in the top 20 (for the year) at all in either the US or the European all fromat charts!!
Rant over!
Re: @ Sam
I didn't mind the Mist Walker RPGs on multiple discs... I did mind the horrible paper slip case packagine the discs came in though... sort that out!
I highly doubt that RPGs have a bigger market in Europe than in Japan, like the man says... compare the charts.
Re: Re: @ Sam
Sorry, I meant US & Europe combined. There was a time when RPG sales were so low in Europe and US that japanese devs did not even consider the game games to be released here. Times have changed, and now, other countries are the top priority (see Square-Enix 2007 sales for ex !).
Kowloon : agree with you on the paper slip case, so cheap !
Re: Re: Re: @ Sam
what would be a better alternative for those lame paper cases? maybe a 'box set' affect? 4 (im guessing) slim line cases in a box (like family guy etc)? Or maybe a fancy gatefold affect? That would be kinda cool.
FFXII
Yes, the more you look at the bigger picture - it seems the overall impact on PS3 will be really quite minimal - remaining exclusive in Japan and probably PS3 only in Asia, Square are clearly aiming it at the North American audience purely for its 360 release.
Also, with FFXIII Versus remaining PS3 exclusive overall, you're clearly going to still need PS3 for the "complete FF experience".
Re: FFXII
RE: Paper Cases - Microsoft Japan released the Mistwalked RPGs in nice slightly fatter plastic cases that held all 4 discs in proper spindles... no paper cases.
