'Most violent Wii game ever’ slammed in Daily Mail

MadWorld will ‘transform console’s image’, says paper; No mention of Manhunt in editorial

The Daily Mail has proclaimed Sega’s MadWorld as the most violent game on Nintendo Wii.

An article in today' paper says the title has 'horrified parents' - and claimed that it will change the family-friendly reputation of the machine.

However, the story forgoes mention of Rockstar’s Manhunt 2 – which will hit stores way before Sega’s adult-themed title.

Madworld, a third-person open world effort developed by Platinum Games, is due for release in 2009 – months after Manhunt 2’s release later this year.

The newspaper reports:

‘Nintendo will dramatically transform Wii's image with the release of ultra violent video game MadWorld which, “revolves around the themes of brutality and exhilaration”, according to its creators.

‘The decision to release a violent game on a console which has based its reputation on family fun has shocked anti-violence pressure groups.

‘Mediawatch-UK, Britains longest running pressure group campaigning for decency in TV, films and games, said MadWorld will "spoil" the Wii.

Does this mean they officially can't call Manhunt 2 the most violent when it comes out?! Remember this article when they do...

The point is, this is just one game on the wii, these pressure groups seem to have forgotten that, it's not going to spoil the consoles image those families don't buy the said game. Anyway, the daily mail make their money from scaremongering so let them do it....

If you are a console owner then the chances are you don't read drivel like the 'Mail.

I will get a copy of MadWorld my two boys won't be seeing it. It's that simple.

And there I was getting used to Facebook getting a kicking over the last few weeks by the media and enjoying the time off from having to back our industry up.

Time for round 3, 4, 5, 6?? then.

Madword is a comic book game isn't it... a bit like Killer 7 and No More Heroes. It's not a realistic gory fighter, I wouldn't be surprised if the game got a 15.

Regardless, this is fantastic promotion for SEGA's title. I was aware of it, but other than that very few did. This is PR gold.

I like how easily people forget resi4, in which you can get your head cut off by a chainsaw. Its just pathetic scaremongering so that the DM readers can have something else to be shocked and appalled about this week

The whole point of the Wii

posted by Aug 14, 2008 at 11:53 am

I thought the whole point of the Wii was to have games for everyone. So naturally the catalogue should include some titles for older gamers.
I don't see how parents can be horrified when the only way their kids can get hold of it is if they buy it for them.
I can only think that the people who are concerned by Madworld do not understand the concept of a games console. Specifically that the content any given person is exposed to relys on thier own library of games. Rather they see a violent game and associate that level of violence with the console itself.
Relating back to AIs comment, it would be like releasing a controversial movie then saying it's bad news for DVD players.

lol ain't it sad how they have a HUGE advertisement for Kung Fu Panda and all these game shows and game developers along the outside of the article...

And yeah, I reckon, after playing GTA4, I'll really have so much reason to go massacre my village and do a Devil's Rejects style suicide by cop martydom...no. I won't to be quite honest, I was being sarcastic, Daily Mail. If you want to complain, complain at the nut jobs on the street, not the games that everyone should be entitled to play.

The Daily mail always moan about video games they helped get rule of rose the other year by publishing a load of bulls**t about the game.....

I find it difficult to believe that they say this is the most violent especially since there are already 3 resident evil titles available on the wii...and the spanish villager had a chainsaw too ;p....the media is far to inconsistent with there bitching lol

The wii family friendly image should go. People think it's all wii sports and wii fit. Try playing bwi, MOHH2, COD etc. basicly any shooter. You think they're to violent and are getting rid of a family friendly image. Plus there's zelda...

What? And the person called Pokemaniac says this??
Anyway, the wii is a terrible console and I wish I had'nt spent my cash on it. It is nothing compared to my PS3 and 360. About the games...manhunt 2 is boring anyway, played the uncut version my mate got from amsterdam, and Madworld is a wii based game...enough said!

FAMILY

MADWORLDGEEK

Define FAMILY! I'll just break it down for them.

First, kids. Kids are generally known as people under the age of 13. These kids cannot buy an ultra violent game like Madworld without their FUCKING PARENTS BEING WITH THEM!

Next, teenagers. Teenagers are these people between the ages of 13-17. Unless they are 17 or older, they still need to follow the rules that kids do.

Now, adults. Adults are people 18 and beyond. These are people with no age restrictions and can easily buy Madworld from their local store.

With that being said, as most people see it as a FAMILY entertainment system, I believe that Nintendo has allowed catering for the entire family. Little Jimmy, who just got back from Elementary School, can play Super Mario Galaxy, or Rayman Raving Rabbids, or whatever other E rated game there is. Big Jimmy, who got out of High School for the day, can play some Metroid, or Zelda. Daddy Jim, after putting Little Jim and Big Jim to bed, can pop in some Madworld, or some Manhunt 2, or No More Heroes.

My point is that calling the Wii a 'family' console, is also saying that there are going to be some games intended for adults, Nintendo even said this at a conference when someone asked them about letting Madworld on the Wii. They gave a quick summary of what I said, and continued. But these idiot parents want to make sure that they are not exposed to this stuff (which I am all for), but that doesn't give them an excuse to make up random shit, just to take away the fun of others, just thinking about little Jimmy or Suzie, and taking a shit on those who might, I don't know, want to play it at a reasonable age?!
