‘Daily Mail hate is an honour’, says Rockstar boss

Sam Houser laughs off media criticism; ‘We’re angry dorks’ says MCV Legend

Rockstar co-founder Sam Houser has called the ‘hate’ the firm receives from the Daily Mail and other conservative quarters “an honour”.

Houser has also dismissed the idea of Rockstar as a ‘rock’n’roll outfit, saying they don’t indulge in “groupies, pounds of coke or anything fun at all”.

In a full interview on MCV sister site Develop – which we implore you to check out – Houser said Rockstar was not keen on growing its headcount in future, because it wanted to keep its “personal touch”.

He stated:

“Most of the people who hate us are people it is truly an honour to be hated by – reactionary creeps with strange agendas – and the Daily Mail. Most people who know about modern pop culture know about GTA and like or dislike it on its own merits.”

He added: “I think we are both depressed at how boring we really are and how unexciting even the worse fabrications and exaggerations are when you read about them.

“None of it seems very rock and roll, so we find it a little sad, when there are probably better stories that could be written about both us and the industry/medium.

"No sharks, groupies or pounds of coke or anything fun at all. We read like angry dorks, which might be true, but is certainly not very exciting.”

Here's to the "Quentin Tarantino" of video games! The idiots who write and read the Daily Snail think that The Beatles music is a bad influence on kids!

So true,

We need more statements like this :)

the Daily Mail, Boris Johnson, and everyone involved in slandering the games industry with their loosely disguised neo-nazi right wing agenda's should be told to get stuffed. :)

Well played Sam Houser, we salute you saying it like it is.

He makes an interesting point about their "personal touch". You won't find EA releasing a seamingly laid back and relaxed retort to newspaper slander. They would use a load of legal jargon/business speak like a damn politician.

Its like telling an angry dog to "just chill out" :D

more of this plz.

I agree 'the personal touch' is something severely lacking in the current video game climate. Smaller companies are being swallowed up by big corporate machines and i cant help but think these comments are an un-subtle poke at the likes of EA as well as the Daily Mail.

I think we know who MCV's next Legend is... Especially if it was put to a public vote.

"reactionary creeps with strange agendas"
It's true, the writers at the Daily Mail are exactly the type of people Rockstar satirise so viciously on the GTA radio stations.

I think if you look back to the recent statement released by EA in response to Fox News ridiculous feature on Mass Effect, you will find a personal response to something they clearly took personally.
