UK retail chain admits recent problems, but says stores are thriving
Computer Exchange has quashed fears that it is on the verge of financial problems, insisting that it has enjoyed a successful six months of growth.
Concerns over the chain’s future emerged last week after a winding-up order was posted online, and numerous customers complained that cheques from the firm had bounced.
Yet CEX’s brand and communications manager Jonathan Cronin has told MCV that, although there was a problem, the retailer is not struggling for survival.
“There was a problem with customer cheques, but that’s been sorted now,” he said.
“We’ve reimbursed everyone affected, and we’ll be sending them an extra voucher as an apology for the inconvenience.
“As for the insolvency rumours, they’re not true at all. We’ve just opened multiple new stores and had our annual party, which isn’t the type of thing an insolvent company would do.”

Computer Exchange has recently moved offices, with improved warehouse and logistic facilities. It has also opened new stores in the likes of Wood Green, Croydon, Coventry, Huddersfield, Darlington and Leicester.

cex $ells out
still not a good sign... public opinion implies that everyone wants this company to close down.
cash-flow problems, rude and incompetent staff who are unable to accept criticism, failure to adapt to changing market conditions. why would anyone want cex when we have ebay? and their "staff-cum-sellers" are usually nicer and have better music taste.
Cex
maybe the rumours stem from a company called cex Ltd being listed in london gazette as having been issued with a winding up petition by revenue and customs last month.
Re: Cex
Does this mean I can buy their allocation of Wii Fit & Mario Kart's?
Oh wait, they don't actually sell new product.
Re: Re: Cex
@1 why would anyone want cex when we have ebay? and their "staff-cum-sellers" are usually nicer and have better music taste.
Thats an easy one.... Its a theives paradise. CEX is full of stolen stock.
If you do a search on the Moneysaving expert website you will find alot of threads about CEX going under with loads of people "STILL" waiting for monies
Re: Re: Re: Cex
how come a member of staff in there bradford store, said they have not been paid and the rent on the building hasnt either been paid ??????????
Re: Re: Re: Re: Cex
Regards to Alan's comment i have to say that with all of the competition in Bradford they would be stupid not to pay the rent. The other games retaillers must be wetting themselves with Game Station selling up and the dimise of CEX. By my count that leaves Game and Game Station the only two places to trade now in Bradford.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Cex
richard
your wrong i shop at game trading
RE: Alan in Bradford
I too recently visited the bradford store, and I when I asked for a game I got met with the response "I aint helping, I aint been ****ing paid this month", I have also heard from a reliable source that bailiffs did in fact turn up at the shop on one occasion to take there rent money.
I now take my trade to a local indie, GameTrading who have much more stock and are a lot cheaper......and helpful staff, who have probably been paid!
Re: RE: Alan in Bradford
Sorry Alan i forgot about Game Trading i was just thinking of the heavy weights!!!!!!
CEX
I used to use CEX in Hounslow until they stopped giving cash. Their staff are rude, smelly and unhelpful. I too use a independent game shop games connection in West Drayton who are helpful and clean. lol
Re: CEX
Same in the Manchester Arndale too. Walked past and seen the sign 'No cash for items, exchange only''.
@ 4 DM
Yeah, your right. It is a thieves paradise. You can find most of HMV's, Games and Zavvi's stock sitting on their shelves (who in the right mind sells PS3/360 controllers STILL inside it's packaging).
Re: Re: CEX
Birmingham store staff had not been paid for weeks and trading in for cash is rare. Seems the mobiles do better than the games, but as they are currently selling Smash Bros Wii for £42 preowned - £2 more than new RRP - it's hardly a shock.
It's a shame really as some stores in the franchise seem to do much better than others - the Worcester store is perfect - family friendly, helpful staff and a good selection of games in a well lit accessible store.
Re: Re: Re: CEX
They no longer pay cash for trade-ins in most strores, not exactly a good sign.
The stores are disgusting. Dirty, loud un-customer friendly music, rude staff who are punk/metal wannabees.
I can't bring myself to shop there, I really do hope they go under. And if the staff aren't getting paid, why continue to work there?
Re: Re: Re: CEX
The Gloucester store wasnt paying cash but is now and also is advertising for new staff - although I suspect thats due to staff leaving for not being paid and new staff getting the excuse it takes upto 6 weeks to be added to the payroll.
Their problems seem to have died down for now but Im sure they will come back again soon.... hopefully soon !!
I mean they sell Smash brothers wii at £42 second hand and I sell it new at £34.99 they give people stupidily high trade in prices so customers think wow and then hike up their prices so in reality the customers arnt actually any better off but just think they are !! and yes it's a thieves paradise - I mean the amount of new sealed stuff they have in there is unbelievable
RE:LAST ORDERS AT CEX
With the current financial climate, the first thing you do is make sure you have enough cash to pay the rent and just as important your staff, disgruntled staff that havent been paid are not good at all for your business.
Banks + Private investors have probably pulled the plug.
The company who buys them will get a very good price.
CEX dont have anymore aces up there sleeves
Re: RE:LAST ORDERS AT CEX
Its a shame over the past few years a lot of good indies are going under. Eplay were great. With warning signs showing up lately at other good indies. Sounds like both cex and chipsworld are struggling. Seems that the only indie prospering is granger games
CEX Statement
I feel its quite telling that CEX have offered no explantation for the winding up order.

Re: CEX Statement
so sad when people ACTUALLY WANT this company to close.
so much for karma.
Re: Re: CEX Statement
I cant speak for all stores in the company and I know some of them are awful because we get transfers to our store from other stores and some of the games have been broken, phones missing chargers, batteries etc... but I think thats down to the management at that store. The store I work in is run quite well and we're very strict on sealed goods. If a customer brings a sealed game into our shop or sealed item (phone, controller, ipod etc), we ALWAYS ask for proof of purchase. If a customer brings in 4 brand new games all out within the past 2 weeks but they are unsealed, we still ask for proof of purchase. Our shop is run very well and we hardly have any sealed stock because of our rules. Any sealed stuff we do take in, we have seen the receipts for.
I'm only a sales assistant and I never got paid on time last month, I got paid 11 days late.. but I and all of the staff in our shop still continued to work at full capacity during those 11 days. Unfortunately though, CeX have hired a lot of idiots and young people and as soon as something goes wrong, they act like children and throw their toys out of their pram.
I'm not trying to say "CeX is the greatest!!!" because it isnt. I have many problems with how his company is run and as people have pointed out, the pricing department are a joke.. but dont try and say the whole company and all the employees are horrible when thats not true. Yeah there are a few awful shops and staff but we're not all bad!!
Re: Re: Re: CEX Statement
A friend of mine manages a CEX store and a few weeks ago all the stores were called in the middle of the afternoon & told to bank all the cash in the tills including the float because there was not enough money to pay the wages... i have been in business management for over 20 years and that sounds pretty terminal to me!
Re: Re: Re: Re: CEX Statement
Dave, that is true to an extent. The stores werent told to bank everything but we were told to bank a lot of the money within the store.
I really dont think the company can go bust. The company still takes in a lot of money on a daily basis. If they are having financial issues, all they have to do is stop doing cash purchases for a week or 2 and then all the money that comes into the store will be going towards bills/wages/debts instead of back out to customers.
I'll miss the CEX
I would miss the CEX if it does close, it opened in Newcastle about three years ago and the prices for Cash/Trade were excellent and there seems to be a lot of range of games, although there are a lot of things you look at and think wtf £400 for a wii last Xmas, £110 for wii fit now... need i go on.
People use it like a cash machine (me included) but i do trade and buy things as well, but the lifters don't they just cash in, and if people are not spending money they are going to be left with stock.
Re: I'll miss the CEX
If CEX Re-thought there selling and buying on goods keeping a database of stock which will sell if bought and refusing discs which are old boring and really dirty or scratched then they might stand a chance. A clean out of their stores to make it look as modern as they think they are and some customer skills from their staff would really help out. If I thought they would pay me I'd train their staff and show them what working and customer service is about. Most of the staff are really lazy and slow end up talking to each other when there suppose to be serving you, and theres a really grumpy crowd behind who usually cant be bothered to wait and take their custom else where.
Re: Re: I'll miss the CEX
hi i put 4 orders in over the weekend all come back saying no stock this was last weekend and only got my monyerback this saturday they got no phone custom sevice anymore even tho the lines still live i phone them 4 times about my orders about 3 hours just the phone ringing just show what this rubblish company not even turning off the phone lines only know no phone customers sevices on they web site and saying its turn to email base custmor sevice but they do not answer you emails then i know this company in big trouble this company just does not care and run by monkeys or should i say monkey could do better
Re: Re: Re: I'll miss the CEX
For the love of god, learn where the punctuation keys are on your keyboard.
Re: Re: Re: Re: I'll miss the CEX
i have been in this industry long enough,(too long)
this is one of the worst games companies on the high street
its only matter of time before it goes under.
and i tell you i cant wait for it to sink
Fancy pint
John from skream
If you are indeed John from Skream, it is rather damning of CEX if your opinion on them is a reflection of the feeling within the games industry.
I would love to be a fly on the wall at Centresoft, Gem, or Koch.
Re: John from skream
Bob
I think john from skream,was a joke.....
As far as i am aware they dont trade anymore
Re:
I have my fingers crossed that CeX will bite the big one.
I've only been a customer at the one in Leeds a couple of times, out of necessity. The staff are horrible, the shop always smells, and they are never playing what I would call customer friendly music. It's always too loud, and the queues are always huge because of both staff being slack and the arse about face way they have of doing things.
You can never find what you are looking for because the shelves are such a tip. There's no logical order to the place. And quite often as I've been told, they cannot find the disc you need once you take the box to the counter.
Their pricing is an absolute joke. Whoever does their pricing needs to take a step back and think about what charging £100 for a second hand Nintendo DS does for your business. You can get them as cheap as £90 new for God's sake. And don't get me started on them charging £10 more than the new retail price for Mario Kart on the Wii.
While I feel sorry for the decent staff that they do have, it is one company that really does disgust me. I hope either the bigwigs there take a good hard look at what they're doing, or they do go bust.
Re: Re:
@23: Tasha, "when there suppose to be serving you"...
That's why we have such poor customer service staff, the people doing the training, do not have sufficient spelling and grammar skills. You would probably find that a lot of their staff are students and would laugh at your education skills Tasha, I wouldn't bother if I was you.
As for CEX, never had a problem with any of the stores or staff. In fact, I used to travel from Manchester to Leeds to shop at CEX; as I found the staff better than the "well dressed" idiots that Game employs.
Yes the shops are a bit of a mess but anyone who has been gaming for any decent length of time will tell you, some of the best indie shops were exactly the same. If I know what I want, I don't want some pretentious "shirt and tie" salesman talking garbage down my ear. I like CEX, I like the music, I like the atmosphere, it's not some fake, dressed up "show".
Once you were in the "trading in" loop, CEX worked out at great value and you could get some great bargains in there. The slightly higher purchase price was easily covered by the much higher trade in value.
I seriously hope they don't go under but if they do, I hope that anyone who does want them to go, that owns a business, suffers the same fate.
Re: Re: Re:
"I don't want some pretentious "shirt and tie" salesman talking garbage down my ear. "
Nope you get some pretentious otaku wannabe blasting crud-metal down your ears instead and acting as if you're not there when al yo uwant to do is hand over cash for a simple purchase.
CEX always reminds me of that not the nine o'clock sketch regarding the hi-fi shop with the snotty sales people ripping the crap out of the customers and acting as if they are distraction. Some of the stores are good but some stink (they must buy in some special cleaner that makes the store smell like a horrible damp toilet, cheltenham eplay used to use it as well) and are manned by people who have no idea of customer service.
I used to enjoy a trip to CEX - sometimes they were great to deal with but many other times they were horrible, they'd make so much more money if they were partner or parent friendly. Still their loss not the buyers as someone else will take their money and not deffen them in the process.
Re: Re: Re: Re:
Yeah, I too used to enjoy going up to the Rathbone Place branch to look at and buy all the lovely import stuff. But even 'when it was good' the staff carried themselves with an ill-deserved sense of authority.
I remember trying to buy a Jap Dreamcast and having the girl behind the counter cut me out mid conversation buy saying "hi!" to other people passing behind me. And then there was the time when I saw one guy tell another how good condition second-hand stock should be put out as new.
As for these days... CEX seems little more than a place to buy old PS2 games, DVDs and dented/blood-stained mobile phones.
Good riddance, I say.
@ LeeC
Are you sure you don't work for C E X? :D Your comments smacks full of bitterness.
Re: CeX
The music in staff annoys CeX employees too, I work in a new store where the music is pretty much picked by one person and the metal annoys me especially when i tell them its giving me a headache, to prove a point she puts something even more shouty/screamy on. On a day when I got to have some control of the music I was playing more customer friendly music and when some complemented the music in store that day a few minutes later they put metal on 'to prove a point' what point I do not know.
When it comes to sealed stock we do have legitimate traders coming in with a lot of copies of one new game as they get them for cheaper and trade them into CeX as its quick cash and they can go buy more and make a quick profit before they start trade. When it comes to phones we have to checkmend which means we check if the phone is lost or stolen, if it is we don't buy it in. Thats not to say we don't buy in stolen items, however when items are sold in to us we take details that way we can track who sold in what and we can contact the police.
The reason the prices are so high is that pricing and commercial want people to trade things in so hike up the price for it so people trade it in. Apparently Wii Fit will go up and up and up towards Christmas so if you can find them for £70 buy buy buy and sell them in 1 week before and you will increase your money.
Another thing to say is that you can find out the prices online this means that if you keep a note of prices elsewhere you can profit in minutes, I have bought DVDs in the 99p Store in Camden taken it to CeX in central London and got £5 store credit or £3 cash for it. If more people did this when buying stock our seemingly high prices would be miniscule. Also if you are after something specific you can find out what store has it, being based in London, I have gone to other stores with a shopping list so I can get everything quickly, admittedly sometimes stuff is not there or has gone walk about but most of it is there.
But for the most part our store is very friendly, its not the sales assistants fault that there are massive queues, there are a maximum of 6 tills and not everyone is working because of viruses, we do the best we can and we are paid MINIMUM WAGE this is hardly fair what with the chaos we have to deal with especially when the people who are paid more aren't dealing with the chaos, i almost went over once when taking a gamecube over to test because there was so much crap on the floor fortunately the gamecube got caught otherwise it would have gone through a glass window, although i did wind up breaking several dvd cases when i landed on them. At the store I work in we speak to the customers how they speak to us if they're short and snappish then we are snappish back, if they are nice friendly we spend a bit more time helping them out and making sure they know they are appreciated but when someone comes over to the counter before we call next please and im putting stuff into the tills and trying to sort out the previous buy ins i either polite say "I'm afraid I'm not ready for you yet please step back into the queue and when I am ready I will call next please" and then intentionally sort out the DVDs on the back and wait for someone else to serve them and then call next please. If people are on the phone i will talk louder so they can't concerntrate on theyre call - if you want serving then don't answer your phone its very VERY RUDE
The phone customer service is crap even we say it, if you need to sell it go instore we can transfer it to our online but hopefully give you cash or credit for it.
rant over
Re: Re: CeX
It is no wonder customer is the way it is in cex with Sales Assistants like Pinoa with there eye for and eye attitude to customer service is quite frankly shocking and even more so given that they are in a customer facing role. I have been in the gaming industry for some time now and he customer service sector longer and I find that how a company chose’s to represent it self through it staff and training of it employees says a lot about as a business it performance and its future. What I have learnt from these comments and I do hope that cex is taking note is that need to have a serious look at the way it recruits and trains staff from the ground up and especial looks at it managers which so many people will rely or Its future will be very bleak indeed.
Re: Re: Re: CeX
I don't want CeX to go under :(
They have sooo much more choice than anyone else, give really good trade prices, and i traded in all my old CD's and got a few DVD's and have been trading them back in for new ones for months and still haven't lost all my tradin money.
I think it's down to personal taste, if you don't like it don't shop there, I don't shop in Game because the atmosphere is too stuffy, there's no choice and I get bugged every few moments by a sales assistant asking 'do you need any help with your purchase?!'. I like to browse!
at least in CeX you do get the rare bargain, i managed to get some stuff i'd been after for ages and couldn't get anywhere, even ebay!
Re: Re: Re: Re: CeX
What can I say? It's such a shame to say this especially as i used to work for CEX but i gotta say it so here goes..... CEX IS NO MORE THE PLACE TO GO. I can't believe what has happened to this once fantastic company. Cex used to be so vibrant and passionate about what it was and the service it provided but after my my visit today it is now nothing like the CEX of old. I have been hearing disturbing news from 1) the internet and 2) friends I still have in Cex (granted there are not that many now as they have left for greener pastures). I have become more and more worried about stories that CEX is getting ever closer to closing down as a company so I thought it was about time I went and spent my vouchers that I have been saving for the latest and greatest imports and in the end I spent over £200 pounds wth of vouchers on a new console and games for my nephew and the reason I done this is is the following.... I arrived at CEX today excited about the prospect that all the rumours of CEX demise and horrid and i dont give a damn staff were vastly exagerated but how wrong was I, I arrived at the store to be greated by a lock door and shutters down and was a little perplexed but soon all became clear...... the locks had been changed by the landlord as bills or rent or whatever had not been paid. Now this is nothing new from my experience in the past but after speaking to other customers and staff this is not an uncommon occurunce even today and if not even more common. Ok now im thinking I dont care now I just need to spend my vouchers before I lose them with CEx going under hence buying a console for my nephew. But boy was it a pinfull experience and purchase. I had noticed that you can get a new 360 from a high street store with a game for £199 so thought id get a good deal in cex but i couldnt believe that they take the hard drives off ALL but the elite console and you have to purchase it seperatly but get this they charge £140 for standard second hand 360 and a further £45 for a standard 20gb hard drive and to make it worse they dont even give the hd cable with it. so up until now ive paid £185 for a second hand console with no game and no hd cable. In the end I got another second hand controller and 2 second hand games. I had no choice as i was worried i would lose my vouchers to cex demise so I went ahead and purchased the lot. I thought whilst I was in the shop id ention to one of the staff that I could get new console with game for £199 and would they be able to do a better deal and guess what the answer was... yep they can do a better deal go buy it new from the shop thats selling it for £199 new there is your better deal. And it was at that point that it really hit home that the CEX of old is definatly dead and buried and the once pasionate people it used to employ had moved on and ore than likely had there heart ripped out in the process. It's with a sad heart I say that I will never again set foot in to a shop owned by the company that I once bleed and sweeted for. And in closing I would like to say if you are like me then you will remember Mark Lewis, Paul farrington (missed greatly), Did, Hugh Man, Bob dudani, dave Mullins, Liz James, Gary (old brum dude) Lee c (another old brum dude) Nick Stephens ect ect. Im sorry there are so many of the old school that made CEx a great and PASSIONATE place to work and shop. Now they just DONT CARE and by the same token I no longer care and will no longer shop there again even if just coz im worried that the warranty wont matter as the company wont be there. With head hel heavy in hands I say CEX RIP.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: CeX
Well C.E.X Merryhill are in trouble by the looks of it, I took in a xbox 360 elite as I have gone upmarket for the PS3, they offered me £115, not a bad price I suppose, BUT that was in vouchers for exchange only!!!. There is a new boy on the block not far away called The Gameworx, boy do they do cheap deals. Watch your backs C.E.X board.

hey anon. the reason why cex is no more the place it used to be is becuase it is run by drug dealers and crack heads.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: CeX
Hey @ anon you sound like someone who knows EXACTLY what im trying to say. I have to agree with your comments. I take it you have been in CEX many times? wether it be as a customer or otherwise.

'The stores are disgusting. Dirty, loud un-customer friendly music, rude staff who are punk/metal wannabees'
I myself am a CEX employee and happy to be that, I would firstly like to say that my branch, doesn't play metal/punk/whatever and we aren't all wannabe metal/punks. I am, and once again happy to be, myself. I like rap, rock, hip hop, soul, pop, and everything else. Infact we recently had Disney Classics on. Our shop is clean and all our staff are customer friendly. In regards to the hole Thieves paradise, our store is cracking down on it, we no longer accept things in packaging and often ask for POP (proof of purch) so if u wouldn't mind, stop slagging off CEX as a hole, and just mention the store names. ta loves.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: CeX
Hi all, Well i'm sorry to hear that CeX has been having all these troubles but I can see why from my past experiences! in the past 6 months i've taken back at least 9 items that were either dead or have died in a short space of time! the worst cases being Graphics cards, i've taken 5 of these back before getting a completely working 1! the 1st 1 worked fine until I found out it was only a 64Mb onboard and the remainder of the 512Mb was made up of system RAM! and for the price of 40 quid I was well pissed! the others just died after days of use! The other main problem I've had with their stock was HDD's I had a 160Gb die after 6 months and then a 500Gb die within 2 weeks! I of course got them to replace them under the warranty! and had it replaced with a brand spanking new one that was 6 quid more but as I didn't have the difference they let me off as a good will gesture which I thought was great! you don't get that often but was glad I did as the amount i've taken back and wasted more bus money on sort of compensated for it! My other problems were with DVD-RW the old 2X one I traded in for a new one was replaced by one that was the same manufacturer but a couple of models on and didn't work atall! All I ask for in a shop is that their 2nd user stock is tested properly instead of just traded in and not tested proper 'cos they're too lazy! They even had the cheek the other week to tell me that a stick of brand new RAM I didn't need and was trading didn't work(1st time they'd ever tested any of my trade ins!) and they couldn't accept it! I knew it worked as I only pulled it from the machine that morning and only brought it 3 days prior. Anyway, uit did in fact work as I plugged it straight back in my PC and it booted fine so I took it back 2 days later and they tested and would you know it, it was fine! just obviously an incompetent employee as it was even tested on the same test machine!
Overall I do find the staff at the Birmingham branch helpful and willing to have a chat about any problems or upgrades but as for the testing side of things it's basically non existent but I will keep buying from there as it's the only shop that sells 2nd hand PC stuff at a reasonable price in Brum believe it or not! and I hope that the chain doesn't shut down as they're a very handy store to have around for what they trade in! as for the people that say that if they're in financial crisis and to help this just to do vouchers, how would this help them overall because as you all know they give you that bit more for vouchers so overall they'd loose out in the long run anyway so it would sort out problems in the short term but in the long run after everyones cashed in their vouchers the chain would be in a worse state as they'd have lost more revenue! see what i'm saying? you have to think long term not short term! that's where a lot of people fall 'cos they think short term and not what would happen further down the line!
Anyway, enough of my moans/praise let's see what others have to say! Long live CeX I say even if half their stock is junk, that's what warranty's for!
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: CeX
Hi all, just to let everyone know that my graphics card overheated and died on me last night! this will now be the 6th one i've returned! and I only got this one on 21st of june so it's well in warranty thank god! but again another return! Let's see how long the next one works for!
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: CeX
Sure you are not over heating the graphics cards yourself as to have 6 over heat on you sounds like there may be a ventilation problem with your PC.
And as far as I know CeX is not going under.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: CeX
Also the last time I looked CeX had stores in America and Spain.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: CeX
doesn't help explain the fact that most of the staff are just a waste of space. besides, have you looked at their forums and facebook community...? i wouldn't waste my time with any of those losers.
amazon and ebay don't have physical premises, but they have "stores" worldwide. and their customers are their suppliers.
who cares if cex aren't going under. the face is that online sales are beginning to outstrip traditional retail and cex aren't doing anything about it.
what i would like to know is what would happen if cex realise that it would be far more cost effective to just go online. what would happen to their staff then? because i don't see that much talent in their stores, and the company doesn't do enough to retain the little talent that does come its way.
it's a company run by losers for losers.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: CeX
And you base your view on what exactly.....Have you been to every store and to there head office? you can only be guessing at what the staff are like as you haven't been working with them and to base your view aswell on their facebook is abit low really. What they do in their private lives is down to them and no one else unless you are some kind of stalker......
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: CeX
i guess that makes every other thread on this topic a subject of stalking. i just never knew that cex staff were better than the rest of us. we take it all back.
anyway, check out the following podcasts:

maybe cex and all of its staff can come up with something just as good. maybe. in about 100 years.

maybe cex and all of its staff can come up with something just as good. maybe. in about 100 years.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: CeX
How high and mighty are you people? The workers at CEX are paid minimum wage, work in badly-lit shops, and you have the nerve to pass judgment on them over their fashion or music sense? A number of you also seem to think that it's ok to be rude to customer service staff just because they're behind a till - and god forbid if they give you the same treatment! The customer is NOT always right - in fact, the customer can be a real arse sometimes, and I'm sick of people expecting us to stand there and take it.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re:
dude, i worked for cex. and now i work in another customer service role. i know bad customer service when i see it.
take it from me, it isn't that hard to retain some sort of semblance of integrity as a business and as an organisation.
what cex are doing now are sooooooooo behind the times it makes me sick. for starters, consumer habits have changed and nobody buys from traditional bricks and mortars shops anymore.
cex now is a glorified cash convertors.
my little brother walked into cex about two years ago. he's also done customer service. he would never work there if it was the only job going in town.
it isn't too hard keeping up a healthy decor and it isn't too hard to maintain relationships with your suppliers.
why don't you talk to sainsburys, and ask them to become cex's "supplier"?
you can get new stuff cheaper from elsewhere.
when you pay pennies, you get penny pinching morons.
value your staff, and maybe they'll allow you to reap the rewards of becoming the organisation that you once were. you'll also get what is considered to be loyalty. somthing that i don't think anyone at cex really knows about.
and to mention the subject of stalking is a bit low. nobody would stalk cex's employees. they haven't done anything to warrant attention.
get some reviews up. have a few healthy features. start promoting yourself within your organisation. start a fanzine. form a band. do whatever.
have some self respect, and maybe your customers would respect you in return. and go and speak to your management if wages are really that low. i'm sure david mullins would love to hear as to what you have to say. after all, he is retail "royalty".
and if it bothers you that much, form your own company.
working in cex now is akin to having a £5 an hour mcjob. is that what you really want? a dead end job with zero prospects. the chance to be a glorified tool where you realise that you are easily replaceable.
i'd dread to think what the majority of cex's employees would be doing if it started closing its stores down. where would they be, and where would they go?
the credit crunch is already beginning to take its toll. how long before the staff realise that there is not such thing as a job for life anymore.
i'm not saying that all staff are like this. i'll be more than happy if they can achieve something, and strive to become "famous". RH and IK do this on the company website. for their efforts, they should be commended. but there aren't enough staff like them. and if you don't mind me asking, but who are they and what are their real names?
fame is based on achievement. popularity is merely baseless.
now give me something to talk about...
CEX/CHIPS
chipsworld are also struggling to pay the creditors
my uncle works for them
he says they arent getting in any new consoles or releases
hes had to turn away customers
hes not a happy bunny, neither is me auntie
Re: CEX/CHIPS
I have to say its a shame that Chips no longer sells new games or consoles, it seems they could be soon another casualty of the growing competition in the industry.
I have been going into Chips in Skipton for a very long time, and have become rather fond of Pete and Trish (the managers), who have treated me like family over the years, but now I dont really have any other option other than to go to Fusion Games, or travel down to otley to GameTrading, who have really helpful and friendly staff (specially that one with the glasses on)
No I do wish Chips all the best, but it seems the chips are down for them at the moment.
Re: Re: CEX/CHIPS
I actually can't stand CEX stores. I've had nothing but bad experiences with Wigan, Manchester Arndale, Manchester Piccadilly and Liverpool (the one near the train station), staff are rude, scruffy (is it me or shouldn't you look clean and presentable when working in retail?) and alot (and i'm not saying everybody) haven't got a clue what they're doing! Normally if you go into the Wigan store there'll be about 6 members of staff behind the counter with 2 serving. Isn't it comman sense to jump onto a till when there's a great big q? Not in the Wigan store! I worked for GAME for 5 years and loved every minute of it and the staff were always well mannered and clean! I applied for a job with CEX but applied to late as i'd been on holiday, all i can say is thank god. I wouldn't work for them EVER. At least GAME and Gamestation know what they're doing. Chips are also very good and always happy to help!
I for one won't be disappointed if CEX closes down.
I mean have you noticed how many dodgy people actually go into CEX?
cex
Maybe if there staff moved faster they would see more people and not leave a mile long Q un noticed... its a joke 3 hours i waited in a Q and there was only 7 people in front of me... maybe if the staff moved faster they would see more people and make more money, as it is in hull people always leave the Q, as they get sick of waiting
Poor service at wigan
Never am i going this shop again.
the service is poor and they can,t even be ass to repair phones.People are in line waiting for a long time and you have,nt got a clue what the staff do.
The counter was a mess full of dvd, games, etc.
They just push you off when something goes wrong.
