PSP 3000 will arrive on October 15th in Europe for €199; Improved screen and built-in microphone included
Sony has announced a newly redesigned PSP at Leipzig this afternoon, dubbed the PSP 3000 – which will launch on October 15th in Europe for €199.
The black device has an enhanced LCD screen, which SCEE president David Reeves said will “increase intensity and the number of colours that can be displayed – and is easier to view in natural light.
The console carries the same dimension as the PSP Slim and Lite, which was only announced at E3 last year.
It contains a built-in microphone and allows users to contact others in Wi-Fi areas via Skype and Go!Messenger. Reeves called it “a viable communications device”.
Reeves announced eight bundles, all at €199, which include games in the Harry Potter, FIFA and Buzz! series, as well as a set of Go! Communications software.
The current Slim & Lite model was stil "very important", said Reeves. It will be given a new budget SRP of €169.

Not a great update
Not a great update really. It's not changing enough really to make most users want to upgrade. I'm quite dissapointed really, when I read there was going to be a new PSP, I'd hoped for either a major update like the PSP slim and lite or the DS lite, or maybe even a PSP 2. Disappointing.
Re: Not a great update
I dont have a PSP and not sure this makes me want to get one either. I would have thought most people would be hoping for a dual stick version if they were to upgrade it.
Re: Re: Not a great update
I agree with the above guys. You would think it would be a major change. Better hardware all the way around. And you know the damned thing is going to have one of the unhackable motherboards.
Re: Re: Not a great update
WOW Cool, well i have a PSP Phat/old one (gave this to my sister, pain in the bum), 2 PSP Slim & Lite (one is my customised 1, and the other is final fantasy 10th anniversary 1 which is never played, lol), and i might just get one of these eventually.
I AM NOT GREEDY, lol
Re: Re: Re: Not a great update
@ 4 not greedy, just stoooopid!
Re: Re: Re: Re: Not a great update
Don't you guys get it there will never be dual sticks as its
only an upgrade. If sony released a psp with dual sticks
it would skrew every one
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Not a great update
Why sell to three gamers/consumers when you can sell to one, three times over.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Not a great update
Surely everybody is missing the point.
On the commodity market a 40GB HD is more expensive now than a 160GB (its like buying parts for old cars or trying to but a 16MB memory stick)
So, in fcat my reading would be is that SONY ARE going the low cost route with the bigger HD

The PSP "a viable communications device"
Funniest thing I've read in ages...
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Not a great update
I still ahve my release date Phat PSP, and although i love it to bits, i may have to upgrade for this new baby!
Better screen with anti-glare will make my commuting easier (try looking at a dark screen on the London Underground!), slimmer and lighter (than my phat edition), and the integration of skype with a built-in microphone makes it all really interesting...!

Number 8 is lost on an internet message board...
Someone send help!
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Not a great update
Not worth upgrading as you wont be able to hack it. A hard drive PSP would be have been a true upgrade.
Viable communications device?
How can the PSP ever be a viable comm device if I cannot even receive a call when I am sitting on the crossbar menu, let alone playing a game, or watching a video? Are people really going to go out of their way to leave their PSPs on with Skype running at all times on the off chance that somebody might call them? Get real.
