203,000 attend Europe’s combined trade and consumer show; expo to return next year
The organisers of Leipizg Games Convention have confirmed that the show drew in a record 203,000 attendees last week – and have vowed to return with the show next year.
The future of the Convention is now up in the air, as German publisher body the BIU backs a new show in Cologne, GamesCom, in 2009.
However, Leipziger Messe CEO Wolfgang Marzin said:
“The GC – Games Convention will be back in Leipzig again in 2009. The industry and visitors are giving us their clear support to continue with the fair.”
He named August 19th to 23rd, 2009 as the dates for the next – Games Convention.

According to a Leipziger Messe survey, 90 per cent of the 14,600 trade visitors at the GC said they wanted to show to come back in 2009.

Good
Good. With such a succes, and with such a support, GamesCom is just dead.
Re: Good
As a small to medium sized publisher, I'd have to say it was a very good show for us from a business to business perspective especially.
In regards to next year, all the chatter was that Cologne will be the best supported show. Its also easier to get to and has more (albeit expensive) hotels, flights links for London etc.
We're booking hotels for both cities and we'll see how things pan out through the spring
Leipzig is great for business
Leipzig was great for business. I wish next year the show is there as well. Doesn't matter how many clubs are in town, as the three days are so full of meetings, there's no time for entertainment. Across the years, Leipzig comes out as very well organised event, in contrast to other games happenings.
Re: Leipzig is great for business
This was my first stab at Leipzig and I flew in on my way back from SIGGRAPH - with that event fresh in mind. Leipzig was massively productive for me, and for the mobile developer by far the better event of the two.
