The Wiz once again champions open-source development, delivering multi-media capabilities and emulation
Game Park Holdings has unveiled its latest iteration of its Korean-developed open-source handheld, the GP2X Wiz.
The machine packs a bright 2.8-inch OLED touch-sensitive 320x240 QVGA screen and a 533MHz processor – which compares favourably with the PSP’s 333MHz CPU. It also boasts a built-in mic and expandable SD memory slot to accompany its internal 1GB of storage. The dual-joypad machine is designed not only for gaming but also for video and music playback.
As well as the promise of new games every month, the machines comes equipped with 12 games built in – including shooter Myride, bingo title Blingo2008, psychedelic puzzler BoomShine2X, desktop defence game Square Tower Defence and the frankly the wonderfully titled Snake on Dope.
In keeping with the confusing history of the machine which saw original company Game Park Holdings split into two, different outlets are currently quoting different information on the upcoming machine. The German GP2X site features the Wiz prominently, whereas the UK portal is instead championing an alternative handheld – the Pandora.

Pandora
The Pandora is not coming from Game Park, it's another project, the people behind it have nearly zero experience in hardware.
Re: Pandora
I remember someone saying the same thing about SONY about 13 years ago.
The thing is with the Pandora that Gizmondo, Phantom etc hadn't got was the piublic's attention. It's been a long time (thirteen years actually) since I've had consumers asking me about a platform that firstly I hadn't heard anything about about and then latterly looks quite formidable.
Strangely but also harking back to the days when Nintendo and Sega dropped the CD into the gaming domain with great effect, The Pandora seems to have latched onto the home brew, modding, bedroom programmers who were using the PSP so lovingly at it's inception and is exciting the Nintendo DS's expanded consumer base.
As with everything within this industry, it goes full cycle. As demographics expand, format holders struggle to be all things to all people and ultimately it leaves a gate open for someone new to come in to the market place.
Hopefully unlike the majority of it's predecessors it will be more like a SONY entrance to market than a Gizmondo one.
Here's hoping.
