Publisher celebrates Final Fantasy VII spin off’s tenth week at the top of the Sony handheld chart
Square Enix has praised the performance of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, calling it an “incredible success” after its tenth week at the top of the PSP charts.
Since it knocked LucasArts’ LEGO Indiana Jones off the top spot in mid-June, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII has ruled the Sony handheld charts, firmly stuck to number one since the start of the summer on June 21st.
Doug Bone, Square Enix’s UK sales director, told MCV: “Brand strength, great trade support, impactful marketing and the quality of the product have combined to make Crisis Core the must-have PSP game of 2008.
“Beyond the incredible launch, to still see the title performing so strongly shows that players are enjoying the game and recommending it to their friends, so we see Crisis Core’s success continuing for months to come,” Bone enthused to MCV.
Square is planning to follow up Crisis Core’s success with a slate of new releases, including Final Fantasy IV on DS and Infinite Undiscovery on Xbox 360, both due for release on September 5th.

The publisher’s latest edition of the popular Dragon Quest series is also on course for next month, with The Chapters of the Chosen, arriving at retail on Friday September 12th.
Crisis Core, the prequel to the biggest selling Final Fantasy of all time, provides 16:9 widescreen visuals, RPG characters created by world-renowned character designer Tetsuya Nomura and additional gameplay challenges that weren’t included in the original Japanese version.
