US retailer GameStop removes listing for retro movie tie-in
There are big question marks hanging over Terminal Reality’s video game adaptation of classic ‘80s movie outing Ghostbusters at the moment – but another spectre has appeared on the horizon with the news that a major retailer has removed all mention of the title from its website.
Kotaku reports that US retailer GameSpot has not only cleared its site of all mention of the game, but also offered a full refund to those who had pre-ordered the game.
The future of the game was thrown into doubt following Activision-Blizzard’s post-merger spring clean, though other reports have suggested that the game is still being lined up for release – possibly in conjunction with the film’s 25th anniversary next year.

What I heard
The reason Activision did not pick this up was that there was no new movie for the game to be marketed around. They did not know how to promote an old licence without a theatrical release. Since I heard that it's intresting to hear that they are pitching for the 25th anniversary release. I think we will still get to see this.
Interesting...
There is definitely the demand out there for this. Marketing could be tricky out there as I think it would be easy to over-estimate the demand for this. As a 30-something gamer I can see the appeal but to the wider market? Will the breakevens actually stack up for the development cost?
I have a feeling that if Acti-Blizz try and offload it, they might find they struggle to get a buyer in the same tier who isn't direct competition
