Retail chain knocks £20 off Nintendo's Wii
High Street retailer Woolworths has dropped the price of the Nintendo Wii, selling the console with Wii Sports for £159.99.
The offer will stand for only one week, and marks the first time the Wii has fallen from its RRP of £179.99. Woolworths has also cut £20 off all Wii bundles.
Woolworths recently told MCV that it is looking to ramp up its presence in the video game space, and celebrated the release of Wii Fit by temporarily re-branding stores Wiiworths.

New Sale, Coming Soon...
that's a good sale. Soon to be followed by a much larger, closing down sale...
Re: New Sale, Coming Soon...
Wouldn't it make more business sense, especially based on Woolies financial state, to add value?

Buy two Wii Consoles get a free woolie store
Re: Re: Re: New Sale, Coming Soon...
I have worked for woolies for the last 6 years in stores and head office, I have had many ignored meetings trying to show the importance and profitability of the games industry but they are not prepared to put any money in to it. They are however prepared to give a golden hand shake of £5 mill to a no good chairman who doesnt care about the lower level employees
Re: Re: Re: Re: New Sale, Coming Soon...
This is a silly deal. There is no need to reduce the price of Wii consoles. It isn't as if we are all struggling to sell them.
They might as well just give away their stock!!!
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: New Sale, Coming Soon...
I work in Woolies - Reducing the price of the Wii has brought a LOT of money into the company in just a few short days - as it stands; Woolies is the cheapest place to get a Wii now. The public want good things and a cheap price at this point in time, and with companies like Tesco and Asda raising prices it's about time a company looked at the consumer before making a decision on what to do in stores.

@6
I don't deny that it will bring 'money' into store and drive sales but I don't believe it will drive profitability. Its just a short term gimmick which will see sales fall to their normal levels after the promotion ends.
Oh and if Tesco and Asda are raising their prices then I would rather follow their profit making rather than profit warning approach.
Cool.
Distie of the year!!!
staffing
@ 7, well said. It is about time we stopped all the price war stuff and got back on a level for once.
@6 If woolworths were so intent on giving the customers something good you would have more stock available rather than boxes on the shelf that show out of stock and also an educated person, knowledgeable about the stock they sell, rather than some Doris that has not got a clue.
The knowledge and customer satisfaction part is something indie stores have been doing for years.
Woolies
Like most Indies, I was stunned by this move, what is the point? But on reflection, CostaConsoles comments make sense. It can not be coincidental that they have slashed the price for a week, 2 weeks before their next trading statement. In short their sales must be desperate to do this. Assume the PS3 or 360 will be next weeks deal. Could this be the beginning of the end ...
Re: Woolies
Its good for the customers who deserve a better deal at the moment , Everyone who has played the wii will know how addictive it is . I cant understand why people are complaining about the drop in price. Times are tough so its good to see this £20 reduction! Well done woolies you have just gained another sale !
