Direct PSP Store announced

New service removes the need for PS3 or PC to access; PS3 infrastructure mode also revealed

It seems a little strange that it’s taken so long to finally rear its head, but Sony has at last announced that a dedicated PSP Store is on the way, PSP Fanboy reports.

Currently, PSP owners need either a PS3 or PC to access the PSP Store. Content can be downloaded onto those machines and then transferred to the handheld. The new Store, however, will allow PSP owners to access it directly via a wireless internet connection.

In addition, Sony has also lifted the lid on a new PS3 infrastructure mode for PSP owners. In laymen’s terms, this means PSP owners will be able to access online multiplayer modes through a PS3 connected to the internet.

The PSP Store has been confirmed for an autumn launch in Japan, though there’s no word yet on its arrival in the West.
